Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Runic ScyClaw Speed Win

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Life Sapper from the Death Splinter...

While high in mana cost, this card has flying as a buff and high speed and decent damage with reasonable health and shields.

The battle below features a Level 1 Runic Skyclaw where his speed is a crucial factor in the victory!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap
  • Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Screenshot 2023-01-07 at 16.42.36.png

Summoner - Selena

  1. Lord A - a decent tank
  2. Chicken - 0 mana snipe sink
  3. SninLo - low mana magic sneak
  4. Venari CyrstalSmith - for heal
  5. Runic SkyClaw - my main damage card
  6. FireSpitter - another fast second damage card.

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - OUCH! I lose both my tank and my chicken while taking out none of my opponent's monsters!
  • Round 2 - Better! I take out my opponent's tank then Ooze straight off the bat, but then lose my next two monsters!
  • Round 3 - with Runic Skyclaw now sitting as tank I elicit three misses and take out my opponent's Venari CrystalSmith, no more healing now!
  • Round 4, another miss on Skyclaw and my Fire Spitter takes out the Pelacor Arbalest
  • Round 5 - I take out the archer
  • Round 6 - It's all over i take out the final monster and I win!

How important was The Runic SkyClaw?

Absolutely crucial, my team was on the back foot half way through with only two monsters left, but his high speed meant several misses which allowed the Fire Spitter time to chip away with some damage for the win!

I did need the high damage from the Fire Spitter with the summoner plus one ranged buff to take out my opponent's Venari CrystalSmith in round 3, but even if I hadn't have done SkyClaw would have still have secured me a victory I think if we'd have gone down to fatigue!

So happy days!

Final Thoughts: Runic SkyClaw- worth buying?

At level one his high speed is a boon when there are so few monsters with high speed in Bronze league, so yes, and at max level his skills all match up....

Useful in high mana battles as giant killer means he does 10 damage with 10 mana plus monsters and snipe means he could easily wipe out most monsters in one or two attacks. And reflection shield saves him from reflect damage while high speed and flying give hi a high chance of being missed, which makes up for his relatively low health and shields!

So I'd say this is a firm buy, nice card!

If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

Card looks awesome. This is from the riftwatchers collection? Those have some cool artwork and powerful cards in them. Actully surprised how low demand has been for them.

Once "Creeping Ooze" is eliminated, it recovers speed to hit faster and
"Runic ScyClaw" does a lot of idly tanking, while "Fire Spitter" spits fire from behind.👍👍👍

I'm getting towards doing this myself - probably be sold out in a couple of months!

I'm not even having this card in my deck. When I think about, even if the deck is in top200 by power (or higher) I don't have more than half of the cards maxed out and 20% not a single BCX.

BTW, congrats on the win!
