Limited Promo-Card Could Change the Whole Gameplay
If you've noticed in the gameplay of Splinterlands, there's often a popular line-up of cards that everyone wants. When I first joined Splinterlands, the card to have was the Mylor Crowling summoner Earth card. Oh I hated watching those thorns wrap around my cards and squeeze the life out of my monsters!! GRRR! I mean roses are NOT suppose to be afraid of thorns, but I certainly was! Then @clove71 delegated the gold foil Mylar card to me for a bit, and I was in heaven. First of all, I couldn't believe her generosity to such a new player as myself. I'm no one special, and yet she let me borrow it! I'll never forget her kindness. Secondly, I thought I was on top of the Splinterlands world! Perhaps I was, because if you have the right cards folks, it becomes the new meta, and everyone is racing to be the one owning that card.
Is Dr. Blight Gold Foil the Next Meta?
So, when these Chaos Legion cards drop, what's going to be the new Meta? Well, we've heard now for weeks that you're going to want that Dr. Blight card, but let's not just talk about the regular card here, which obviously is wonderful, but let's talk about something even rarer than that: it's time to talk about the GOLD FOIL Dr. Blight! I recommend you get out your calculators for this one, folks. It's about to get serious.
Dr. Blight has the potential to change the whole game structure. You may be in a situation where if he's the next meta, you'll need that card. Now, if you're wanting to participate in tournaments, you need those cards that are game-changers. Let's look at how much money you make in gold and diamond league tournaments:

Wouldn't that be nice to win over $36,000 USD? And that's just one tournament! They've got more set up again just a few days after this one! If you have THE CARD that changes the game, you'll be invincible. You're going to need gold cards to be in those top leagues!
But Who's Going to Have the Gold Foil Card?
If Dr. Blight Gold Foil becomes part of the Meta then what is the Gold Tournament going to look like? Well, it depends on how many of these gold foil cards actually drop from this pre-sale! If we look at the leaderboard today, we can see that the top player is only going to get 7 Gold Foil Cards.

You need 1,000 packs purchased to guarantee you're getting that Gold Foil card. This card WILL NOT drop after the pre-sale, so we can figure the numbers based upon how many packs have been sold from the leaderboard! Now, rather than have a multiple amount of screenshots here of the leaderboard, go to https://splinterlands.com/?p=cl-leaderboard and add them up yourselves, but at the time of this post, there are only 148 Gold Foil Cards that will be given out in Splinterlands' players. That's NOTHING, guys! Let's double the numbers, assuming Splinterlands will at least sell double what's listed today. So you're not even reaching 300 Gold Foil Cards, but let's make it 300 to round out the numbers.
So, in order to MAX a gold card with a legendary card you need four of them. Let's divide 300 then by 4 and you're looking at THE POSSIBILITY of only 75 fully maxed Dr. Blight Gold Foil cards on the market! WOW! But how many people are actually going to be able to max those cards? Well, let's look at the leaderboard again to see. Only 8 people will have the ability to max their Gold Foil Dr. Blight (because they are getting at least 4 Gold Foil Dr. Blight cards).
Now, let's go check out the value of these Gold Foil cards on the market already! For example, just recently @goldmatters shared out a tweet about the gold Prince Julian! You may recall me sharing this news with you in another post.

So how much do you imagine the value of a Maxed Gold Foil Dr. Blight, the very CENTER of the whole Chaos Legion discussion is going to be with all the amazing abilities he has on his card? Like WOAH! Are you breathing?
Let's look at the market now for what the LEGENDARY Gold Foil cards are going for these days...

If you look above the card, you see a number there which indicates how many cards are in circulation. You can see a basic Ancient Lich has 138 Gold Foil cards in existence and is selling today for $100,000. REMEMBER I told you based upon the numbers (if we were to double what's been purchased at this point in the pre-sale), you're looking at the POSSIBILITY of 75 Maxed Dr. Blights, but that would be PRETTY DIFFICULT to get to, considering a lot of players are not going to sell their gold foil cards to you to make that a maxed out Gold Foil Card. I'm certain there will be less than 75 maxed Dr. Blights and I bet you they will be worth more than these cards listed!
The FOMO is REAL!!
So, we're speculating here folks that what Aggroed tells us is actually true, and if so, then he said we want this Dr. Blight card. And if you get that Gold Foil card, especially at MAXED LEVEL, you're talking about MAJOR wins in tournament prizes, major wins in the guilds, definitely wins in the ranked battles, and we can't even BEGIN to dream about what he will do for your land.

Yeah it's a tough call. Like this card is going out of print in literally a few days. And Nate seems to think it's gonna be important for CL.

For committed players $37K tournaments with limited players every 2 weeks has to be tempting.

Interesting thought. But I would think that Dr. "Blight" would be the opposite of what you need for your lands to produce. Maybe they will set it up so that you could send Dr. Blight to your enemies to reduce their Land production?

The problem is liquidity. For a player that joined late August, it's too late for me. I don't have the money available for that right now. It would have been possible if vouchers had been at like 5$ but instead I was only able to gather 200 vouchers. Problem is that it becomes much better at 1000 packs if you include the gold foil and the title. Considering that, I paid too much for those vouchers. If I had joined splinterlands a few months earlier, it could have been possible... just not this time. :(
Yes, I won't be able to get the gold foil either, but I think you and I need to make sure we are ready for the lands expansion so be ready for that!! I'll get some packs too for sure, but I won't be getting the gold foil, I'm too new and too small a player, but the top guys really really really need to get these cards while they can!
Yeah, can't wait for land expansion. How bought one so far but who knows, I might buy more if the prices don't skyrocket again. What's gonna be the big surprise is what king of land you get haha :)

Let's see....870 Vouchers at $20 each (if you're lucky) plus $4 x 870 to buy the packs equals just under $21,000. I'm not saying the card won't be worth that, but that's a lot of cash to try and come up with for a guaranteed Gold Foil Promo Card. Like I said, it will probably be on the market for more than that but there are still bills to pay.
Diamond and Champion Leagues are going to be very hard to crack for anyone just getting started. Thank goodness there are so many great ways for people to still earn lots of dollars in the lower leagues.
There's plenty to go around but this opportunity is just out of reach for the vast majority of us. Are YOU going to get one?

I think there is gonna be less of these cards than people might expect. People have a history of combining cards and I can't see people saving these as singles.
There is no doubt the card has utility and could be useful in the higher Gold Foil Tournaments for sure.
So get'em while they're HOT!!

Of course its an eye candy, and the FOMO is real, but a maxed gold foil one is just way too expensive to get one. Well for players who are already has a decent income within SL its more affordable, but out of the game ecosystem it requires such a huge investment, that only a few can afford. I do not say its not an option, but the ones for who it is, they are not the ordinary folks...
About the usefulness, this card has a great value on the battlefield because the debuffs, for the modern format it will be the replacement for ooze / goblin shaman or undead priest within one card, obviously its a gamechanger, if you going to have one this itself 'll increase the win rate at least 10-20%.

Gold foil Dr. Blight is out of this world but I will settle for even a regular and adore it like gold! What do you think the selling price will be at launch, I hope it's less than $200 for Pete's sake

The Promo Cards are indeed precious in Splinterlands and if you think they bring also 5% in Battles + 5% if they are Gold Foils, you simply can see the benefits and why the price will be high enough.

I spent $6K on additional voucher to get me up to 1000 packs to get this - I based it on a minimum estimated future value of $20K. That was being conservative.
Of course what I should have done is spent that $6K on more SPS when it was < $0.40 but there you go! Actually even that wouldn't have been anywhere near enough to get me 1000 Voucher.
I sold some VOUCHER for 25 Hive yesterday, so the FOMO is real!

I just found this post. I predict the regular price of this Dr Blight card will be $50 since they are going to be very limited and will never be minted again. I'm going to deposit some money just in case it's a bit more but that card is something else! I really look forward to seeing people destroy decks with this card. The gold foil version is even more ridiculous haha

Hey I've been pretty inactive on Splintertalk the last few weeks. This was related to the fact that I had quite a lot to do for university o.O

Oh and how this question has driven me around in recent weeks. Unfortunately, I'm not well enough stocked with SPS to 100% secure a Dr. Blight card yet with the airdrops.... not even close.
But at least I have 2 vouchers lying around through the airdrops. I really like Dr. Blight and I think the card has a lot of potentials. Because he supports well through his many effects and at the same time he shares good DMG especially when he poisons opponents. On the other hand, with my 2 vouchers, I only have a 4% chance, and after all the 2 vouchers have between 30-60$ worth, which could almost be a Dr. Blight card on the market.
Currently, my plan is to wait until shortly before the end of the pre-sales and then decide whether I sell the vouchers or use them. I have set a limit of 20$ per voucher. If it goes above that, I will sell the vouchers. Below that, I will use them.
I am looking forward to the next phase of voucher sales. Because maybe I will convert my profits from the pre-sale there again into vouchers and get double the amount of packs.
Just wait and see 😅
