What Do We Know about Dr. Blight?

We've been told in previous AMAs that the new Chaos Legion promo card was going to be a "Dr. Blight". We've also heard from the Splinterlands' developers that it will be a legendary neutral card. There was a hinted mention that it would be a summoner; however, that idea has been rescinded by the devs. I mention it for two reasons, (1) because it WAS suggested in an AMA by the devs, and (2) Dr. Blight puts on the raven face, which Splinterlore specifically points out is a symbol of death. I suppose the devs can change their minds; however, they seemed much more adamant that this card was to be a neutral card played with all splinters that a death summoner, but we'll see! Let's continue further on what the powers might be of the card!

Powers of the Promo Card

As a neutral card, that tells us a lot. The understanding will be that this powerful legendary card will transform the slinter's play of the game. It's POWERFUL and LIMITED and yet @aggroed insisted you will WANT THIS CARD, almost implying it will be quite difficult to win without it. EEEK! (He is good at creating the FOMO, isn't he? HA!) So let's discuss exactly what we know now in the story of this Dr. Blight, and we should be able to speculate on his powers!

The Story Holds the Key- Summary and Speculation

We learned about Dr. Blight from the Splinterlore posted on Splinterlands. You can read the full story here, but for our purposes, we want to know what Dr. Blight will do in the Splinterlands game! Therefore, this post is a speculative look using what we've LEARNED from previous Splinterlands' AMAs and the story that's been published now about the doctor. We have a lot of information, so we should be able to use deductive reasoning to uncover the POWER OF THE Dr. BLIGHT PROMO CODE! MUHAHAHHA!

Doctor_Blight.gif

A mysterious voice is heard speaking to the young botanist, Dr. Alastair Lexington. This voice introduces himself to Alastair as "Silas".

Silas says, "I can make anything you desire come true. I can give you power to defeat those that would stand in your way. Power to become everything you ever dreamed."

Now, Silas is a newly-mentioned character in Splinterlands as well. In fact, the Splinterlore story comments that: "This Silas was just another discovery, another mystery to study and unlock, in the magical land of Praetoria."

So, I would say, Silas will also be a card. He was invisible, so perhaps he will have those similar powers; he also seems to speak in a Siren-like way, where his voice has a trance or power over Alastair. Finally, Silas is able to lead Alastair to the volcano and convince Alastair to do his bidding "for the sake of power!"

Well, wouldn't we all like some power in our lives? Collection power that is!! I would imagine these cards will have some good collection power or I hope so! It would only make sense!

Alastair (2).jpg

Based upon the volcano scene, Alastair has no idea how he got there and has no concept of how long it took him to reach the volcano. After Silas promises him power and that now is not the time to lose courage, he moves towards the mouth of the volcano where a mysterious, secret rune appeared. He didn't understand the meaning of the rune but we receive some note-worthy points. The rune's description was "In the shape of an hourglass, but with a circle drawn in the center and two lines slashing through it. This one glowed a soft orange. And he could feel magic pulsing from it like a heartbeat." I would CERTAINLY assume this rune will become the mark on the card of some sort of power, perhaps a timed death/poison to other cards?

The last thing Alastair heard was the dark laugher 'in his head'. So does that mean Silas has possessed him? Likewise, Alastair was unaware of how much time had passed. Finally, he had glowing green vein-like markings on him. According to the story, Alastair, "From his studies in botany, he knew what this particular shade of green often signified. A sickness or poison. A danger. A blight."

Therefore, I speculate that this legendary neutral card will have power over the TIME of the game (as in the speed at which monsters move) and poison to the monsters, like a virus, that must be cured with something, with what though I have no idea. (Perhaps it's another card?!?!) If there is no cure, whatever it touches (like monsters I'm assuming) will die.

Now, back to the storyline. Alastair finds a village where all the green foliage is dying. He goes into a shop to hide his green veiny look only to find the floor boards rot out from under him! Therefore, whatever he touches seems to die.

Meanwhile, Silas is still speaking to Alastair and telling him he's so beautiful now. Come to find out, he's been transformed from Alastair to now Dr. Blight, wearing a Raven mask which as the story explains and is true to literary styles, "a symbol of death".

So, I suppose we can leave open the idea that this is a Death Summoner; however, again, the devs last said they were leaning more to the neutral card but ANYTHING is possible, right?

It would be an interesting twist if Silas became a card or even Alastair! My personal favorite idea would be if Alastair became a no mana card like the Furious Chicken. Since Alastair would be a positive card but have little power. It's clearly Silas that has given the power!

What speculations do you have for the Promo Card?

Extra Speculations

Now, now, if the Chaos Legion is the next step to land, what do you suppose you need to craft resources BEFORE THEY DIE by the hands of Dr. Blight in order to save Splinterlands and save the monsters? These resources would produce their own powerful healing cards that would stop Dr. Blight's path, You couldn't just have ONE resource; you'd need multiple resources to make a spell or potion no doubt to then CURE the blight that had fallen upon Splinterlands. Again, that's just my guess, but hey, what do I know? It's certainly fun to speculate!! I look forward to learning how close (or far) I am from the ideas!!

Thank you so much for reading! I appreciate the comments as well! I would LOVE to know what you think will be on the promo card! Please share you're ideas! It's fun to guess and wonder how close we'll get to what it will actually be!!

Power over time. I like that idea. :D I was thinking Dr Blight helps other blight cards while he is in play. Maybe this is the reverse of the bloodlust mechanism.
Anyway, one thing we really know for sure is it'll be 2 months before we can use him 🤣🤣🤣
Keep blogging and putting that smile on our faces.

Well, the only thing that really pops into my head is "decay". How they implement that I don't know. One thought is maybe the card will be immune to "thorns". Like, if the blight and decay is that strong on him that he's rotting floorboards, thorns that try and touch him should basically rot before they do any damage.

The other thing I could see is that any physical (melee) attack against him receives some sort of penalty to the attacker. Not like shield or armor. More like when a melee attack lands, the attacker loses 1 armor and 1 attack point. So if the attacker had 3 melee and 2 armor, once he "struck" Alistair, he'd only have 2 melee and 1 armor for the rest of the battle.

Those are just my initial thoughts. You're right, it IS fun to speculate! :-)

One more thought just popped into my head. In regards to Power over Time....maybe he gets Stun as well. Or "confusion". Like if something gets hit by Alistair, that card either doesn't attack for a turn or....drumroll please.....performs an attack against his own team! That might be out there a little but...stranger things have happened. :-)

YESSSS!! I wanted to get more into the specifics with the melee and the armor, but the post was already getting so long HAHAHA! You've made my day to add this, and THORNS! OF COURSE!!!!! :) YIPPPEEE!!! Well said, Dagger!!! :) Thank you so much for reading and commenting!! :) The "decay" idea is perfect with immunity to thorns!! WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT card!! :)

I’m thinking dr blight may be able to cast a poison spell on the opponents, similar to thorns but it will effect all opponent cards like a summoner and cause a loss of 2 health per turn.

Everyone's hyped for Dr Blight...I want to think that I'm rational, but I have to admit that I'm excited for the future of Splinterlands. The game is good and will become even more fun with the new cards!
