Lord of fire 3D // Splinterlands Art Contest Week 200!

Hi hivers again, today I'm sharing my new art for the weekly Splinterlands contest.
This time I decided to make this fire monster, because I wanted to do something not so humanized to work with sculpture, and I think it's quite similar to the original, it's always been difficult for me to achieve that 100% but I think this time I was pretty close. I hope you like it 😄


Hola nuevamente hivers, hoy les comparto mi nuevo arte para el concurso semanal de Splinterlands.
En esta ocasión decidí hacer este monstruo de fuego, porqué quise hacer algo no tan humanizado para trabajarlo con escultura, y creo que me quedo bastante parecido al original, siempre me a costado lograr eso al 100% pero creo que esta vez estuve bastante cerca. Espero les guste 😄

I talk a little about the process of this art. As always, for any sculpture you have to make a base with basic shapes to add more polygons and start sculpting. This time i work it through several separate parts, the head, the arms, the torso and the legs.


Les hablo un poco del proceso de este arte. Como siempre, para cualquier escultura hay que hacer una base con formas básicas para agregarle mas polígonos y empezar a esculpir. Esta vez lo trabaje por varias partes separadas, la cabeza, los brazos, el torso y las piernas.

After having the base done as I wanted, I started working on the face, which I was retouching several times after moving on to the other parts, because it was quite strange for me to work the 4 eyes, and at first I did not get that frown of I hate lol.


Después de tener la base hecha como quería, comencé a trabajar en la cara, la cual estuve retocando varias veces después de pasar a las otras partes, porque se me hacia bastante raro trabajar los 4 ojos, y al principio no conseguía ese ceño fruncido de odio jajaja.

The work on the arms was a bit difficult for me since they are crossed and the hands are very close to the arms, but in the end I was able to do it. As for the body, it was totally the opposite, it seemed to me that I passed 4 brushstrokes on it and it was ready 😁


El trabajo en los brazos se me dificultó un poco ya que están cruzados y están muy cerca las manos de los brazos, pero al final si pude lograrlo. En cuanto al cuerpo fue totalmente lo opuesto, me pareció que le pase 4 pinceladas y estaba listo 😁

When I finished the upper part I joined them, and I started to work with the legs, which I decided to leave separately to have less problems working with the hair particles, and when I finished sculpting I selected the vertices in which I was going to work the particles on the legs.


Al terminar la parte de arriba las uní, y comencé a trabar con las piernas, las cuales decidí dejarla por separado para tener menos problemas para trabajar con las partículas de pelo, y al terminar de esculpir seleccioné los vértices en los cuales iba a trabajar las partículas en las piernas.

After this, I forgot to take more screenshots for a while, just as I forgot to tell you that I made the tail with a curve hahaha.
I used box modeling to make the bracelets, earrings and cape, I also used particles for the hair and beard.


Después de esto olvide tomar mas capturas hasta un buen rato, igual que olvide comentarles que la cola la hice con una curva jajaja.
Utilicé modelado de caja para realizar los brazaletes, aretes y capa, también utilice partículas para el cabello y la barba.

And to finish I painted the nails black and made some soft shadows to highlight some muscles and features, I also worked some materials on the shading for the other objects.


Y para finalizar pinté las uñas de negro e hice algunas sombras suaves para resaltar algunos músculos y rasgos, también trabajé algunos materiales en los shading para los otros objetos.

Oh and obviously I also worked on the fire of the tail with particles, it was a bit complicated for me because I hadn't used it for a long time, but it turned out better than I expected. Now I leave you some renders that I took.


Ah y obviamente también trabaje el fuego de la cola con partículas, se me complicó un poco también porque hace tiempo no lo usaba, pero me salió mejor de lo que esperaba. Ahora les dejo algunos renders que saque.

Así como la cola quedo un conector de un suiche de cables de internet que tenia con una lluvia con rayos hace rato jajaja, menos mal tenia un repuesto.

They are hair particles, it is a bit difficult of work and somewhat heavy for the pc to work with, but the result is very good

I think you're pretty game sculpting in place, I like rigging and posing everything XD

And yeh the brush doesn't cope very well in tight areas. I don't think that's a Blender issue though as I had the same problem in 3d Coat back when I used to use that.

His fur looks very velvety there, is that what you were going for in your rendition? As I think it needed to be a bit coarser if you were matching the reference. And I usually like to transition between skin and fur so it looks less like they're wearing socks/furry pants XD but I don't know what style you prefer. Looks pretty alright either way :)

It's just that sometimes I make a mess with the pose due to the influence of the bones hahaha.

As for the fur, I still don't handle it as I would like, and I can't see it correctly in the viewport as it will look, I have to do a render to see the changes when I modify something and it's annoying

It is mildly annoying but you only need to let it render just long enough to see if it's going to work and then cancel the render and continue on your merry way :)

I am assuming you're having to render to see what changed with the properties of the hair as you shoudl be able to see the shape/direction if you bump the child hair count in the viewport up enough

Such is life when messing with particle hair XD

LOL! at least it's not bad.
I want to change the gpu since mine is failing, and I want it to have ray tracing, to see if it allows me to see and process faster. I'm trying to save but they're expensive.

Yeh I was complaining about exactly that in my last progblog x_x I don't know which of my components is failing though (not gpu, that was replaced not long ago)

His face is so cute! I absolutely loved it. The rendering of this is also a bit different, I think, and it looks very nice.
