10K Merits Gone in Seconds! Was It Worth It?

avatar

Hello Splinterlands warriors, after going through Brawls with all their ups and downs, I’ve finally reached that moment that always sparks curiosity again: opening Gladius Cases. It’s kind of funny when you think about it. Sometimes in a Brawl our guild only manages to finish in third or fourth place, and we end up consoling each other in the guild chat saying, “well, not bad.” But in the latest Brawl, things changed. We managed to climb up and secure first place.

And as always, winning a Brawl isn’t just about guild pride. There’s a small reward that Splinterlands players secretly look forward to the most: Merits.

After doing the math, my Merits finally exceeded 10k. That clearly meant one thing: it was time to head to the Guild Shop and exchange everything for 5 Gladius Cases.

Honestly, every time I open a Gladius Case, I always have the same hope. After once getting a legendary card, the classic question always pops into my head:

“Will I get lucky again this time?”

And without wasting any time, I opened them all using flip all mode. In my opinion, the sensation of watching the cards reveal one by one is like opening exam results—tense, but addictive.

No Legendary, But Still Meaningful

This time’s result wasn’t as spectacular as the previous opening.
No legendary cards appeared. No screen-shaking moment that makes your heart skip a beat.

But strangely, I still felt satisfied.

Because from this opening, Quora Towershead was finally able to level up.

And for Splinterlands players who regularly join Brawls, Quora Towershead is no ordinary name. This card often becomes a nightmare for opponents if left to grow too long on the battlefield.

In this upgrade, Quora only gained +1 HP. Not very dramatic. But I know that one more level will unlock a new ability, which is definitely far more exciting.

Sometimes progress in Splinterlands really is like saving small change. Bit by bit—until one day, an average card suddenly turns into a monster that’s hard to stop.

Another thing I realized from opening Gladius Cases is this:
not every result has to be big to feel valuable.

Even though the other cards don’t yet have enough copies to level up, every additional BCX brings my collection closer to the next upgrade. And in Splinterlands, the gap between “decent” and “dangerous” is often just one card level.

That’s what makes the Gladius system interesting. You can’t simply buy these cards from the market. Everything must be earned through Brawls, through guild teamwork, through wins and losses together.

So every Gladiator card feels more personal.

Closing

So even though I didn’t get a legendary card this time, opening the Gladius Cases was still enjoyable.

Because I came away with something more important:
real progress for my collection.

And maybe that’s the small lesson from this Brawl—sometimes what grows your account isn’t one big stroke of luck, but the consistency of moving forward little by little.

My strategy from here is clear:
keep joining Brawls, collect more Merits, and slowly level up the Gladiator cards that are starting to take shape.

Because sooner or later, those cards will become the backbone of my team in the arena. ⚔️
