Hello, Splinterlands warriors! 🌟 How's it going? Today, as part of the Splinterlands social media challenge, I want to share an exciting story about one of my favorite melee monsters, DRYBONE BARBARIAN from the Life element. If you’re a fan of intense melee battles, this card will surely grab your attention. I've used it in battles frequently, and the results never disappoint.

Crafting a Strategy in the Melee-Only Ruleset

When I saw the Up Close & Personal ruleset combined with High Five and Odd Ones Out, I knew it was time to unleash my melee powerhouse. DRYBONE BARBARIAN was my first pick as the primary tank. With the Retaliate ability unlocked at level 5 and Enrage available from the base level, it delivers devastating counterattacks whenever struck. And if you manage to level it up to 9, it even gains the Knock Out ability, making it a true game-changer.

In front of it, I placed DESERT DRAGON, another Retaliate-equipped monster, while DISINTEGRATOR held the middle position to reduce enemy melee damage. To round off the mana cap, I included URAEUS, which may be small but has a Poison ability that can wreak havoc on opponents.

The Nail-Biting Moments

The battle began with my opponent fielding FORGOTTEN ONE as their tank, supported by two sneak monsters targeting my backline. I was nervous as URAEUS became their immediate target and couldn’t survive the first round.

Luck didn’t seem to favor me at the start. The Retaliate ability has only a 50% activation chance, and unfortunately, DESERT DRAGON failed to capitalize on it a few times. However, DISINTEGRATOR’s ability to reduce the enemy melee damage by one point slowed their assault.

Then came the climax in round three. DRYBONE BARBARIAN, already wounded, activated Enrage. With its attack power boosted to 8, it began delivering devastating blows, cutting through opponents one by one. It was exhilarating to watch this tank withstand hits while simultaneously dealing massive damage. In the end, my monsters prevailed, securing a hard-fought victory.

Analyzing DRYBONE BARBARIAN

Strengths:

  • Retaliate makes it highly effective against melee attacks, especially in rulesets that limit monster types.
  • Enrage increases attack power as HP decreases, making it deadlier over time.
  • It’s versatile and works well as a front-line tank in various scenarios.

Weaknesses:

  • Retaliate’s 50% activation chance means it requires a bit of luck.
  • Vulnerable to ranged or magic attacks if the enemy exploits its weaknesses.

Lessons Learned

This battle taught me the importance of having backup strategies. Losing URAEUS early was a setback, but DISINTEGRATOR’s melee damage reduction played a key role in turning the tide. Additionally, while Retaliate may not always activate, monsters like DRYBONE BARBARIAN and DESERT DRAGON are formidable threats when used strategically.

So, is DRYBONE BARBARIAN worth adding to your lineup? In my opinion, absolutely, especially if you often face melee-centric rulesets. Just be sure to pair it with other cards that can compensate for its vulnerabilities.
