Burning Arena Survival: The Hidden Power of Time Bandit
![]()
Hello Splinterlands warriors,
today I want to share a battle that felt like playing with fire—literally. The ruleset was Holy Protection and Global Warming, with a 54 mana cap. A combination I’d call pretty “brutal”: every monster starts with Divine Shield, but each round they also burn. So this wasn’t just about raw strength—it was about who could survive longer in the heat of the arena.

And this is where I tried something a bit different. I brought a card that’s often underestimated but quietly clutch: Time Bandit.
I used archon Underboss Fabino, with a simple strategy—poison the enemy early, then endure as long as possible. My lineup consisted of Dread Tafarian (heal), Quilliun Legionary (a tank with void and thorns), Mindless Thrall, Stonebind Matron, Time Bandit, and Ujurak Elder.
At first glance, people might focus on damage. But honestly, my strategy revolved around two things: sustain and cleansing. And that’s exactly where Time Bandit became the key.
As soon as the match began, I spotted the threat on the enemy team. They used Marlai Singariel with a magic-heavy lineup: Shock Trooper, Mystic Scaleweaver, and the most annoying one, Saltwater Mage with sneak.

Without hesitation, I targeted poison on Saltwater Mage—and it hit perfectly.
In the first round, everything still looked “safe” thanks to Divine Shield. Attacks felt blunt. But interestingly, the burning effect from the ruleset still applied. So even with shields intact, HP kept getting chipped away.
And that’s when the game started to shift.

Saltwater Mage, already poisoned, lost HP twice every round—from poison and burning. It felt like watching a ticking time bomb. I just sat back and let time do the work.
But on the other side, my team wasn’t doing great either.
My first tank fell fairly quickly. The enemy’s magic damage was overwhelming. At that point, I thought, “this is going to be tough.”
Then Quilliun Legionary stepped forward. And behind him, Time Bandit began to do its job.

Every round, the burning effect on Quilliun Legionary was cleansed. Simple, but incredibly impactful. My tank lasted longer than the enemy’s, who kept burning nonstop.
And honestly, that’s when it hit me:
sometimes what wins you the game isn’t massive damage, but the ability to survive one more round.
The fight got more intense. One by one, my backline units started to fall—including Time Bandit itself. It wasn’t immune to burning and eventually went down.
But before it fell, it had already done its job.
The timely cleanses allowed Quilliun Legionary to stay alive long enough to absorb damage. And that gave my team the time needed to eliminate enemy threats one by one.

In the end, victory was mine. And to be honest, it wasn’t a “clean” win—it was narrow, stressful, but all the more satisfying because of it.
What stood out the most from this battle was how Time Bandit, a card that seems ordinary, turned out to be the difference-maker. With 7 HP and the Cleanse ability, it wasn’t just a filler—it was the team’s “lifeline.”
You can check the battle here:
My honest take?
Time Bandit may not look impressive at low levels, but its potential is clearly huge. As it levels up, it’s the kind of card that will shine even brighter over time.
The key lesson I took from this battle:
in extreme conditions like Global Warming, it’s not the strongest that survives—but the one that adapts best.
My short advice: if you face rulesets with ongoing effects like burning or poison, don’t forget to bring Cleanse—it can be the difference between a quick loss and a slow, hard-earned win.
See you in the next arena.
