Equalizer in Splinterlands: Turning Weak Cards into OP
![]()
Greetings, Splinterlands warriors! This time I want to share a story about a battle that felt a bit “naughty”—because I turned a weakness into a strength. Today’s theme is simple but often underestimated: the Equalizer ruleset.
In the Equalizer ruleset, all monsters get the same HP, following the highest HP on the battlefield. So monsters that are usually “fragile” can suddenly turn into instant tanks.

From that point, one card immediately came to mind—one I’ve always been a bit hesitant to use: Shock Trooper.
Honestly, this card is like that strong friend who tends to cause trouble. It deals high damage, but it has the Electrified ability, which damages all units after the second round—including your own team. So with low HP, it’s basically slow suicide.
But in Equalizer?
That story changes.

With a 37 mana cap, I chose Marlai Singariel as my Archon. The +1 magic attack bonus really helps speed up the pressure on the opponent.
Then I built a lineup that I’d normally feel… well, not very confident using in a standard ruleset:
- Moxian Rebel
- Shock Trooper
- Wailsworn Specter
- plus a few supporting units to keep the team balanced
They all share one thing in common:
low HP, but high potential.

Normally, they’d fall after just one or two hits. But this time, I was counting on Equalizer to give them a longer lifespan.
Funny enough, my opponent actually helped make my strategy work.
They played Ulundin Overseer with 13 HP.
The moment I saw that, I thought:
“Thank you, my friend.”
Because it meant all my previously fragile monsters now also had 13 HP.
Suddenly, my six monsters turned into a thick, durable squad.
Round by Round: When Risk Becomes a Weapon
The battle began, and just as expected, my team’s damage started to show.

Shock Trooper became the star. With 5 damage, each attack hit like a sledgehammer. Yes, after the second round, Electrified kicked in and started damaging everyone—including my own team.
But thanks to the boosted HP from Equalizer, it became… much less scary.
Meanwhile, my opponent tried to hold on using Arachne Weaver as a healer, and even had Mystic Scaleweaver, which was quite troublesome.
But the problem for them was simple:
my team had numbers, and the damage output was consistent.

Every round, the pressure kept building. The opponent’s HP kept getting chipped away, while Electrified turned into a kind of “bonus damage” that accelerated the destruction of both sides—but I had the advantage in numbers.
And in the end, like water eroding stone, their defense finally collapsed.
Victory was mine.
What Made This Battle Interesting
The most interesting part for me was how something usually considered a weakness—like low HP or a harmful ability—can completely flip because of a ruleset.
Equalizer truly changes how we evaluate cards.
Cards we usually avoid can suddenly become MVPs.
And Shock Trooper?
Turns out it’s not just a “risky” card—it’s just waiting for the right stage.
From this battle, I learned a few things:
- Don’t underestimate low-HP cards too quickly
- Rulesets can drastically change a card’s value
- “Harmful” abilities like Electrified can become weapons in the right conditions
And most importantly:
sometimes the best strategy isn’t the strongest one—but the one that best fits the situation.
Closing & Tips
If I can leave you with one simple tip:
When you encounter the Equalizer ruleset, take a look at your low-HP, high-damage cards. Don’t hesitate to use them.
And if you have Shock Trooper, don’t be too quick to leave it on the shelf.
Sometimes, the cards we ignore the most…
are the ones just waiting for their moment to become heroes.
