Flying to Victory: How Night Reaper Saved the Day in a Poison Battle
![]()
Warm Greetings to All Splinterlands Fans!
How’s it going, fellow summoners? I hope your card collections are growing stronger, and your strategies sharper with every battle! Today, I want to share an exciting experience from a match I recently played. The ruleset combination was a real brain-teaser—Noxious Fumes paired with Melee Mayhem. If you’ve ever faced a poison rule without having monsters with Immunity, you’ll understand how tricky it is to build a resilient team. The answer? Monsters with high Health Points (HP) and solid defensive capabilities.
Strategic Preparations: Dragon Element for Survival
With a Mana Cap of 46 and restricted elements (Fire, Earth, Life, and Dragon), I decided to go with a Dragon summoner. This choice allowed me to blend monsters from multiple elements. Here’s the team I assembled:
- Drybone Barbarian (HP 12): A sturdy frontline tank to withstand early hits.
- Djinn Renova (HP 6): A vital support with Triage and Strengthen, keeping the team alive longer.
- Night Reaper: Equipped with Flying, Wingbreak, and Reflection Shield, it’s versatile for various battle scenarios.
- Chaos Dragon: With Blast, Flying, and Blind, this beast disrupts enemy ranks with random yet devastating attacks.
While this lineup consumed a significant amount of Mana, leaving some slots empty, I believed that focusing on high-HP monsters to survive the poison damage was the key to victory.
The Battle Begins: Facing the Opponent's Army
My opponent maximized all available slots, deploying five monsters, none with Immunity. Their lineup featured strong attackers but relatively low HP, making it a challenge to balance offense and defense.
Round 1: Chaos Unleashed and Poison Strikes
Drybone Barbarian opened with a classic head-to-head clash against the opposing Drybone Barbarian. Meanwhile, Night Reaper targeted War Pegasus, an enemy flyer, while Chaos Dragon randomly hit Corsair Bosun. Djinn Renova focused her attacks on the frontline.

By the end of the round, poison damage began to take its toll. All monsters on the battlefield suffered a significant HP drop. Unfortunately, my Drybone Barbarian fell victim to the poison and was eliminated. However, the opponent’s lineup also began to show cracks, with several monsters entering critical HP levels.
Round 2: The Magic of Flying
With Djinn Renova and Drybone Barbarian out, Night Reaper stepped up as the frontline tank and became the main target. This is where its Flying ability truly shined, dodging several attacks, including a powerful hit from the enemy’s Drybone Barbarian. Night Reaper’s evasiveness allowed it to survive the round, as the poison continued to wreak havoc on both teams.

Chaos Dragon, as unpredictable as ever, kept delivering random attacks with Blast, spreading damage across the enemy formation. The combination of poison and sustained attacks finally tipped the scales in my favor, securing the win.

Lessons Learned
This battle reinforced the importance of defensive abilities in a Noxious Fumes ruleset. The Flying ability proved to be a game-changer, with Night Reaper dodging key attacks that would have otherwise ended the match prematurely. Chaos Dragon’s disruptive Blast attacks, though random, added immense pressure to the opponent’s lineup.
The key takeaway here is to prioritize monsters not just with high HP but also with unique traits like Flying and Blind. These abilities can significantly increase survivability by mitigating incoming damage through evasion.
Conclusion
This match was a perfect example of how strategy, coupled with a bit of luck, can make all the difference. If you’re tackling similar rulesets, don’t hesitate to experiment with cards like Night Reaper and Chaos Dragon. They’ve proven that evasion and resilience can be the deciding factors between defeat and victory.
