My Strategies for Tackling Reverse Speed and Deflection Field in Splinterlands!
![]()
Hello, Splinterlands warriors! Today, I want to share a story from one of the exciting battles I just played. I hope you’ll also join in the weekly Splinterlands challenges!
This battle was quite challenging due to its unique rules: Reverse Speed and Deflection Field, with a mana cap of 28 points. The elements available were Water, Earth, Death, and Dragon. Hearing this combination of rules, I knew I’d need to play smart and leverage low-speed monsters. So, let’s dive into how it all played out!
With the Reverse Speed rule (which favors low-speed monsters), I chose the summoner DALLAN from the Death element. His ability to apply the Cripple effect on each attack made him ideal for slowly chipping away at the enemy monsters' resilience. When I saw my opponent had chosen an Earth summoner with a lineup of magic-wielding monsters, I knew this would be an intense battle!

In the first round, I placed CURSED WINDEKU at the front as my tank. Although his Thorns ability couldn’t fully shine due to Deflection Field, I still chose him because of his Healing ability, which would help withstand magic attacks from the enemy. As the round began, TERRACEOUS HULK from the opposing team immediately attacked CURSED WINDEKU, and CURSED WINDEKU lost a lot of health. However, my lineup held strong with REVEALER landing a crucial Stun on the enemy, and WEIRDING WARRIOR quickly breaking TERRACEOUS HULK's shield. One enemy monster was eliminated in the first round, giving me a bit of relief.

The real challenge, though, came in the second round. CURSED WINDEKU couldn’t hold up against the magic attacks and was eventually taken down. However, this actually boosted RIFTWING thanks to its Scavenger ability, which adds health each time a monster is eliminated. Soon after, FUNGUS FIEND from the opponent’s side was also taken down by RAVENHOOD WARDEN. Meanwhile, the enemy’s MADCAP MAGUS moved forward, only to be poisoned by my VENARI BONESMITH.

The third round was the decider. The opponent was down to just DJINN BILJKA and GOBLIN PSYCHIC. But with a barrage of attacks from my remaining monsters, including Poison and Stun effects, the enemy’s defense eventually crumbled. With solid teamwork, my monsters managed to eliminate the last of the opponent’s lineup, and victory was mine!

This battle left me with a few key takeaways. First, understanding rules like Reverse Speed and Deflection Field can be crucial in building an effective strategy. Choosing monsters that suit low speed and have healing abilities really helped withstand the enemy's relentless attacks. Second, RIFTWING proved incredibly useful with its Scavenger ability, providing extra durability throughout the match.
Overall, this was one of the most thrilling battles I’ve played, especially with the different strategies I had to use to counter a magic-heavy enemy team. See you in the next battle, and keep strategizing, Splinterlands warriors!
