Opening a Gladius Pack – A Fun Story from This Week’s Brawl!

A few days ago, right after finishing a brawl with my guild ClaNFT, I finally got to open a Gladius pack using the merit I earned. It wasn’t much—just enough for one pack this time. But as always, even with just a single pack, my heart was racing when I clicked that “Open” button. That moment always feels like a mini lottery, doesn’t it?

So, what did I get? Helmet Kharafax, Chimney Wallstop, Isgald Vorst, Witch of Warwick, and the only rare card in the bunch — Captain Katie.

Out of all those cards, Captain Katie immediately stood out. Why? Because she’s an absolute beast as a finisher. If she takes down even one enemy, her stats go up, and if left unchecked, she turns into a magic-damage machine. Right now, I have her at level 4, and she’s already dealing 4 magic damage per hit. No wonder many players love using her in battles — she becomes harder to control with every kill.

The rest? Just commons. But that doesn’t mean they’re useless. On the contrary, they’re helping me inch closer to leveling up some key monsters. Isgald Vorst, for example — I only need 18 more cards to get him to level 6. That’s a big deal because his abilities get stronger and more complete at higher levels.

Honestly though, I had mixed feelings after this opening. On one hand, I’m happy to keep making progress. But on the other hand, I can’t lie — it wasn’t as exciting as the time I pulled Larissa Kerato, my legendary card that’s still one of my strongest assets to this day. That pack felt like hitting the jackpot, especially when I saw how wild her damage and abilities went in an Equalizer ruleset match.

Still, there’s always a silver lining. Playing Splinterlands isn’t just about getting lucky once — it’s about building strength slowly, steadily. Even Helmet Kharafax, which might seem like an average card, can be a strategic key in rulesets like Shades of Gray, where only Neutral monsters are allowed. Pair him with a card that has Weapon Training, and suddenly he’s granting extra abilities to your team. Every card has its moment.

And most importantly, I’ve learned not to get too hung up on a single pack’s outcome. Every pack is just one step toward a stronger collection. Make the most of what you’ve got, join an active guild, and enjoy the ride. Because in Splinterlands, it’s not just the victories that are fun — it’s the journey that keeps us coming back.

So, what about you? What’s your favorite Gladius card so far?
