When Gifts Become a New Strategy in Splinterlands

Hello, Splinterlands warriors.

Lately, I feel like Praetoria has been going through a strange kind of season. Usually, when summer comes, people look for beaches. But in Splinterlands, summer actually makes players look for Gift Boxes.

When I first read the announcement for the Summer Fun Event, running from June 2 to June 30, I thought it was just another cosmetic event. A few cute skins, some small rewards, and that’s it. Turns out, I was wrong.

Summer Fun brings something quite interesting: Summer Fun Gift Boxes.

And like all mystery boxes in life, there are always two possibilities. Either the contents make us smile, or they make us say, “Ah, I should’ve bought one more.”

What caught my attention wasn’t just the rewards, but the concept itself. These Gift Boxes come in five tiers, ranging from $5 to $100. The contents vary: packs, GLINT, Energy Bombs, Fortune Draw entries, exclusive cosmetics, and even Spellbook Tokens that can be gifted to new players.

This is where I started to see that Summer Fun is more than just a reward event. It’s an event designed to connect veteran players with newcomers.

When I saw that the $25 Gift Box includes a Spellbook Token, I was genuinely impressed.
Usually, when inviting friends into a blockchain game, there’s always a bit of hesitation. We worry they’ll have to spend money before even understanding the game. Now, the situation is different. You can simply gift them a Spellbook Token.

In my opinion, this is one of the smartest ideas introduced in recent months.

What made me even more interested is the transferable nature of the Gift Boxes.

They can be traded. Gifted. Saved. Even used as guild rewards.

I immediately imagined how fun it would be if a guild held an internal competition with Summer Fun Gift Boxes as prizes. The reward wouldn’t just be numbers on a screen, but something tangible that the recipient can open and enjoy. It makes the event feel more social. And Splinterlands has always been more enjoyable when the community is actively involved.

Then there’s a new feature that I think will be very useful: the Energy Bomb. Each Energy Bomb restores 5 Energy at once. It may sound simple.

But for players who actively play Ranked matches, Energy is a valuable resource—especially when chasing the leaderboard or completing daily goals.

I can imagine a night when energy is almost depleted, you’re on a winning streak, and you only need a few more matches. In situations like that, an Energy Bomb could be a lifesaver.

Another aspect that caught my attention is the amount of GLINT provided.

The highest-tier Gift Box can grant up to 600,000 GLINT. That’s a significant number.
Especially when we consider that Splinterlands is preparing to introduce new modifiers that allow players to bring their customized Exemplars directly into battle.

This means GLINT will become even more valuable.

So far, many players—including myself—have used GLINT to strengthen card collections. But now, GLINT is also an investment for the future of Exemplars. I’m starting to understand why the Splinterlands team is offering large amounts of GLINT in this event. They’re encouraging players to prepare for the next meta shift.

The biggest lesson I take from Summer Fun is that community growth doesn’t always come from complex gameplay updates.

Sometimes, growth comes from something simple. A box.
Or the opportunity to invite a friend into the world of Praetoria. And perhaps that is the true purpose of Summer Fun—not just collecting rewards, but sharing the fun.

My advice is simple: if you plan to participate in this event, set your goal from the start. Whether you want to chase skins, collect GLINT, or bring in new players. Because once your goal is clear, choosing the right Gift Box becomes much easier.

And as always in Splinterlands, the best reward is often not the most expensive one—but the one that best fits your needs.
