BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge

RULESET: Lost Magic

Description:

Magic units may not be used in battle.

Use Thorns and Demoralize to counter melee attacks.
Use Headwinds and Return Fire to counter ranged attacks.
Units with 2 types of attack (which include magic) cannot be used.

In battles with Lost Magic Ruleset, Magic units may not be used in battle, i.e. Melee and Ranged units may be used. Also, units with 2 types of attack (which include magic) cannot be used.

As mentioned in Splinterlands' BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge article, using Thorns Ability and Demoralize Ability against melee attacks and Headwinds Ability and Return Fire Ability against ranged attacks are quite effective in battles.

Since there are no magic units in Lost Magic Ruleset, I think it is very effective in Armor and is very useful to the team. Therefore, in such battles, I take care to armor the monsters in my team and reduce the armor of the opposing team. Ranged and Melee monsters have to destroy armor first, no matter how powerful they attack, so they can't damage the health of a monster with armor, so I think armor is very important in this type of battle. Meanwhile, If the attack damage of monster with the Piercing Ability is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health. That's why Piercing Ability is very useful against armored monsters.

Abilities

  • Thorns Ability : When hit with a Melee attack, does 2 Melee damage back to the attacker.
  • Demoralize Ability : Reduces the Melee attack of all enemy Units by 1.
  • Headwinds Ability : Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Units by 1.
  • Return Fire Ability : When hit with a Ranged attack, Units with Return Fire will return half the damage (rounded up) back to their attacker.
  • Protect Ability : All friendly Units gain +2 Armor.
  • Rust Ability : Reduces the Armor of all enemy Units by 2.
  • Piercing Ability : If Melee or Ranged attack damage is in excess of the target's Armor, the remainder will damage the target's Health.

  • Armored Up: All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat.
  • Lost Magic: Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles.
  • Active Units : Water, Earth and Life
  • Mana Cap : 30

MY STRATEGY

I chose Kelya Frendul as Summoner, as I thought the extra armor and speed would be very beneficial to my team in this battle, given the ruleset of the battle. I also thought that Sneak Ability and Opportunity Ability would help me win the battle so I added 2 monsters with Sneak Ability and 2 monsters with Opportunity Ability to the team. And I added Noa the Just with Rust Ability to reduce the armor of all monsters on the opposing team by -2. Frankly, it's my favorite strategy in this type of battle, and it works well in most battles.

It could be very useful in Repair Ability in this battle but I haven't decided which card to remove from the suit so I didn't use it in this battle. But if the battle was 33 mana or more, I would definitely use the Repair Ability.

I would like to point out that I have determined the line up of my team according to the health and abilities of the Monsters.

Kelya Frendul is a Water Summoner that gives +1 Armor and +1 Speed to all friendly monsters.

Position 1 : TORRENT FIEND

Torrent Fiend is a Monster that can attack the target with a Melee Attack. The main reason I added Torrent Fiend to the team was that it only cost 0 mana and I put it in the first position.

Position 2 : NOA THE JUST

Noa the Just has no attack power, but have Rust Ability and Dodge Ability at level 2. It is also a great advantage to have 6 speed, 5 armor and 6 health. I added Noa the Just to the team because I thought it would give my team an advantage by reducing the armor of all monsters on the opposing team by -2 in this battle. I put Noa the Just in the second position as I would put Kulu Mastermind in the third position. Because, thanks to Weapons Training Ability, it would have attack power and would be able to attack the target when it took the first position.

  • Rust Ability : Reduces the Armor of all enemy Units by 2.
  • Dodge Ability : Has a 25% higher chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks.

Position 3 : KULU MASTERMIND

Kulu Mastermind is a Monster that can attack the target with Melee Attacks and has Weapons Training Ability, Opportunity Ability and Shield Ability at level 2. And I put it in third position.

  • Weapons Training Ability : Adjacent Units gain half this Unit's attack if they have no attack themselves.
  • Opportunity Ability : Units with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Unit with the lowest health.
  • Shield Ability : Reduces damage from Melee and Ranged attacks by 50%.

Position 4 : DEEPLURKER

Deeplurker is a Monster that can attack the target with Melee Attacks and has Opportunity Ability from level 1. The most important reason I added Deeplurker to the team was because ,t has the Opportunity Ability and attacks the target quite powerful, and I put it in the fourth position.

  • Opportunity Ability : Units with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Unit with the lowest health.

Position 5 : URAEUS

Uraeus is a Monster that can attack the target with Melee Attacks and has Sneak Ability from level 1. And I put it in fifth position.

  • Sneak Ability : Targets the last Unit on the enemy Team instead of the first Unit.

Position 6 : PELACOR BANDIT

Pelacor Bandit is a Monster that can attack the target with Melee Attacks and has Sneak Ability and Flying Ability from level 1. I put it in the last position as it has Flying Ability.

  • Sneak Ability : Targets the last Unit on the enemy Team instead of the first Unit.
  • Flying Ability : Has a 25% bonus chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Units who do not have the Flying ability.

Round 1

It was not surprising to me that the opposing player had a similar strategy. Frankly, if I used the Tank Heal Ability in this battle, I would put a monster with the Taunt Ability in the first position.

In the first round, all monsters attacked targets quite effectively and it was admirable that they didn't miss. And in the first round, a monster from both teams was destroyed. Torrent Fiend from my team was destroyed while Uraeus from the opposing team was destroyed.

Round 2

Even though the monsters in both teams attacked effectively, the armor of all the monsters in my team was more than the ones in the opposing team, which gave my team a great advantage in this battle. In the second round, no monsters from my team were destroyed while the opposing team's Pelacor Bandit was destroyed. Also, the line-up of the opposing team allowed Opportunity and Sneak Monsters on my team to be more effective.

Thanks to the Weapons Training Ability, Noa the Just gained attack power, which gave my team a huge advantage in this battle, so my team was much more effective. In the third round, one monster from each team was destroyed. The monster with the Opportunity Ability was very effective in this battle, and they were a great help in destroying a monster from the opposing team almost every round.

Kulu Mastermind and Deeplurker were really very compatible and continued to attack very well in the fourth round, which made it difficult for the opposing team. In the fourth round, another monster from the opposing team was destroyed, while 4 monsters were still alive in my team.

Round 5

In the fifth round, Kulu Mastermind managed to destroy the opposing team's Deeplurker and only Diemonshark remained on the opposing team. Diemonshark destroyed Noa the Just and regained 2 armors, but it had no chance of winning this battle as it was alone.

Round 6

Even though Kulu Mastermind missed Diemonshark, Deeplurker and Pelacor Bandit managed to destroy it and my team won this pretty tough battle.

The battle lasted 6 rounds and my strategy worked pretty well in this battle and my team was able to win this pretty tough battle. Honestly, Armor was very effective in this battle and having all monsters in my team have extra +1 armor and reducing the armor of all monsters on the opposing team by -2 gave my team a huge advantage in battle. That's why in such battles I attach great importance to extra armoring all monsters on my team and reducing the armor of all monsters on the opposing team.
