Hello everyone, Welcome to my Splinterlands Social Media Challenge post. In this post, I will talk about some features of Runic Skyclaw. I hope it will be useful for you.

Runic Skyclaw is a Dragon that can attack the target with Ranged Attacks and also defend very strongly against Ranged Attack Monsters and Melee Attack Monsters in battles. I can say that it is my favorite card, especially in battles with the Going the Distance Ruleset. In battles with the Going the Distance Ruleset, only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used. And I usually use Runic Skyclaw to defend against Ranged Attack Monsters, and it really does a great job in certain battles and really does its job well. Although Runic Skyclaw cannot attack in the first position, I love to use it in the first position because it can defend very strongly against enemies and thus protect the backline of my team.

It can defend very strongly not only against Ranged Attack Monsters but also against Melee Attack Monsters, especially against Sneak Monsters. If I think the opposing player will prefer Sneak Monsters, I put it in the last position, but if I think the opposing player will prefer ranged attack monsters, I put it in the first position. Additionally, I can put it in different positions depending on the ruleset of the battle and my strategy.

Runic Skyclaw Stats

Runic Skyclaw has Flying Ability and Snipe Ability at level 1, Reflection Shield Ability at level 5, and Giant Killer Ability at level 8. Runic Skyclaw is a Rare Card in Dragon Unit and belongs to the Riftwatchers edition and costs 9 mana.

  • Flying Ability : Has a 25% bonus chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Units who do not have the Flying ability.
  • Snipe Ability : Targets the first enemy Unit with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that is not in the first position with Ranged or Magic attacks.
  • Reflection Shield Ability : This Unit doesn't take damage from Blast, Magic Reflect, Thorns, or Return Fire.
  • Giant Killer Ability : Does double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana.

Additionally, Runic Skyclaw has 3 Ranged Attacks, 6 Speed, 3 Armor, and 5 Health at level 1. When it is upgraded to level 2, its health increases by 1, at level 3, its ranged attack increases by 1 and its health decreases by 1, at level 4, its health increases by 1, at level 5 it gains the Reflection Shield Ability, at level 6, its armor increases by 1, at level 7 its ranged attack increases by 1 and t gains the Giant Killer Ability at level 8. So when it is upgraded to the max level 8, Runic Skyclaw has 5 Ranged Attacks, 6 Speed, 4 Armor, and 6 Health. Runic Skyclaw's speed does not change; if it did, it would be incredibly harder for melee and ranged attackers to hit it.

Currently my Runic Skyclaw card is at level 2. I need the Reflection Shield Ability very much especially in Blast battles, so I aim to upgrade it to level 5 as soon as possible.

Since Runic Skyclaw has the Flying Ability and 6 speed, it can defend very well against melee and ranged attack monsters. I can say that it is my favorite card, especially in battles with the Going the Distance ruleset. And especially, I ensure that it is the target of enemy monsters, and as long as it is not destroyed, the other monsters in my team are protected. In short, Runic Skyclaw can be of great benefit to the team in such battles.

Additionally, in battles with the Going the Distance Ruleset, using the Tank Heal Ability, Headswinds Ability and Repair Ability can be of great benefit to the team.

By the way, I would like to say that Runic Skyclaw is not very effective against Monsters with high speed and Snare Ability. Monsters with the Snare Ability remove the Flying ability when attacking enemies with flying ability and cannot miss.

Let's review the Runic Skyclaw card in a few battles.

Battles

You can watch the first two of the battles below in the video above or you can watch them from the battle links below.

Battle 1

Battle Link

Battle Ruleset

  • Going the Distance: Only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used in battles.
  • Are You Not Entertained?: One additional Gladiator card may be used in battles.

I put Runic Skyclaw in the third position in this battle and put a Monster with the Martyr Ability next to it. My goal was just to buy some time, and in the 2nd or 3rd round, the Runic Skyclaw would move to first position, and get +1 to all its stats if the Monster with the Martyr Ability was destroyed before it moved to first position. Especially increasing its speed by +1 would make it much harder to hit. Additionally, by choosing Quix the Devious as the summoner for this battle, I reduced the range attack of all enemy ranged attack monsters by 1 and the speed of all enemy monsters by 1. I also added Swamp Spitter, who has the Repair Ability, to my team.

Runic Skyclaw took the first position in the 2nd round, and although the battle lasted 7 rounds, the enemies were only able to hit it 2 times.

Battle 2

Battle Link

Battle Ruleset

  • Going the Distance: Only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used in battles.
  • Born Again: All Monsters have the Rebirth ability.
  • Holy Protection: All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.

My strategy in this battle was similar to the battle above, but since this battle had the Born Again Ruleset, all monsters would have the Rebirth Ability. I put Venari Marksrat with the Martyr Ability in the first position and Runic Skyclaw in the second position. This meant that Runic Skyclaw could get +1 to all its stats twice. In particular, it would be much more difficult to hit the Runic Skyclaw, which has a speed of 8. I also used the Headwinds Ability in this battle. Even though Drybone Raider had both a ranged attack and melee attacks, it could not hit Runic Skyclaw at all. Additionally, although Anachron Bolter's magic attack reduced Runic Skyclaw's health, they were not enough to destroy it twice.

If you noticed, I also use the Martyr Ability in the battles where I use Runic Skyclaw, but why? Let's examine it in another battle.

Battle 3

Battle Link

Battle Ruleset

  • Going the Distance: Only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used in battles.

In this battle, the opposing player also put the Runic Skyclaw in the first position and trusted that it could defend strongly. However, I used Martyr Ability in the first position and put Runic Skyclaw in the second position. And I added Supply Runner with Swiftness Ability to my team. And while the Runic Skyclaw on my team had 7 speed when it moved to the first position, the Runic Skyclaw on the opposing team only had 5 speed. This battle is one of the best examples of how the Runic Skyclaw with higher speed can be much more effective when defending. That's why I attach great importance to adding the Martyr Ability to my lineup in such battles.

In this type of battles, using the Martyr Ability, Tank Heal Ability , Repair Ability, Headwinds Ability and Swiftness Ability provides great advantages to the team. Additionally, in battles with the Going the Distance ruleset, using summoners such as Quix the Devious, Lir Deepswimmer and Ilthain can provide a great advantage.

Summoners like Quix the Devious reduce the range attack of all enemy ranged attack monsters by -1, while summoners like Lir Deepswimmer and Ilthain grant the Return Fire Ability to all friendly monsters. And the Return Fire Ability is truly a ability that can be very effective against Ranged attack monsters. However, unfortunately, I do not have the Lir Deepswimmer card and my Ilthain card is only at level 2. I hope I will upgrade my Ilthain card to level 4 as soon as possible.

Runic Skyclaw is a really powerful dragon and can be very useful to the team when used with a good strategy, and the above battles are an example of this. I can give many more similar examples, but in order for the post not to be too long, I will leave the links to my other battles below, you can watch them if you want. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask, I would be happy to answer your questions.

Finally, as I said above, although Runic Skyclaw is very effective against ranged and melee attack monsters, it is not very effective against high speed, Snare Ability or Magic Attack Monsters. So I generally prefer Runic Skyclaw against ranged and melee attack monsters, and it can be really effective in certain battles. I think it's one of the cards that should be in every deck. I recommend you try it, especially in battles with the Going the Distance ruleset.

Brief descriptions of the abilities I mentioned above;

  • Martyr Ability : When this Unit dies, adjacent Units get +1 to all stats.
  • Repair Ability : Restores a third of max armor to the friendly Unit whose armor has taken the most damage.
  • Headwinds Ability : Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Units by 1.
  • Swiftness Ability : All friendly Units have their Speed increased by 1.
  • Tank Heal Ability : Restores a third of max health to the Unit in the first position each round.
