Battle Mage Secrets Weekly - Briar Patch

Hi guys,

Welcome to my blog. This is an entry to the weekly battle mage secretes contest. This week we have a rather peculiar ruleset which is quite interesting in my opinion.

So I've decided to advance after trying to be in the top of the leaderboard for a few weeks now. The thing is I hardly play this days and boy I still need to grow my deck for that. So for the time being I'll try to enter the highest league possible while I build my deck, after that I can try to play for the leaderboard.

Lets get into it..

The ruleset for this battle is Briar Patch

Ruleset IconDescription
image.pngThis means all monsters have the thorns effect.

What this does is that all units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back.

Damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2, rounded up.

Melee attack units with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from thorns.

The Amplify ability increases damage.

Now with this ruleset if you go into battle with a lot of melee cards you might end up loosing the battle. In my opinion even if you do send melee cards you need to send cards that have a lot of health and a lot of shield protection as well.

With this battle my opponent was wise enough to field in magic cards in his selection. I predicted him to be someone who will bring on a lot of melee cards so I thought to send a melee card as my first card and then put in a lot of magic cards as well. But to my surprise it didn't end up well for me.

One mistake I made was with my first card. It was a melee card but then it was a card that does 3x damage. The only problem with this is that it only attacks every other round. It was waiting to attack in the next round and then it didn't even get the chance to.

It's for this same reason I don't like using the uriel the purifier card.

I ended up making less than 3 attacks in the first round leaving the battle to my opponent to enjoy it in the first round and then even killing my card in the first round.

The most annoying part was that he even had a healer(goblin psychic) which healed his first card after it took just a few hits from my cards.

With Captain Katie coming into first position I knew I was going to loose because Katie hadn't made a kill before coming into first position and it was going to be hard for it. Well, I wasn't wrong either as it was killed within the twinkle of an eye.

After the killing of Katie all my cards were left exposed and the funny part was they all had very low health which was basically easier to get to them now. With just a few hits they got to them and in 3 round I lost the battle.

Am not gonna lie, I didn't enjoy this one. It was a battle I didn't enjoy watching since I couldn't make a single kill.

Splinterlands is all about cards? I just don't understand how the game works.

Well yh, people call it a game of cards and we call it a game of strategy. When you start playing you’ll come to enjoy it like we do.
