Hi guys,

Welcome to my blog. Today my Splinterlands social media post will be taking a different direction. In previous weeks I only wrote about battles. Last week I wrote about my journey so far and this week I’ll seek to guide people who are new to the game.

I call myself a newbie on Splinterlands every day. This is because I started playing the game not long ago. It’s been a few months of learning, hate and then appreciation for how far I’ve been in it and am still going strong.

I still remember the day I suddenly woke up and decided I wanted to spend 10 dollars on a spell book. A spell book which looks to activate the earning feature on the game. Not that you can’t play the game without the spell book, but without the spell book you won’t earn while playing.

Splinterlands is a play2earn card game that seeks to see how intelligent and fast-forward of a thinker one can be. In fact, for every game you play, you face different types of opponents who have different types of cards; some are cards you’ve never come across in the game and well others are cards which you have seen and have but are slightly or stronger than the ones you have.

Some say the game is a game for people who have the money to buy cards to play. But I say it’s a game for people who can strategise. There are various ways in which one can get cards in the game and that is not only by buying cards. You can get cards by renting them, opening packs and others.

The first thing you need to do after buying and activating your spell book is to learn the elements of the game. For me, I don’t think you can play the game if you don’t understand what each element (water, earth, dragon, fire and death) stands for and help you do in the game. After knowing what they do you need to know what the different attacks do and also what and how they can be used.

For me, the best place to learn this is from YouTube. Yes, the Splinterlands site has everything about this but the best way is to see them in action; and where else can you see that than a video tutorial?

The most dangerous cards in the game are the magic cards. This made me instantly fall for cards which have the magic attack feature. They can evade the shield from other cards and get to the health of the opponent's cards.

Communities are really important. They go a long way to help you. Look at the hive setting, belonging to a community helps you more than someone who is new and doesn’t want to be a part of a community. We have a Splinterlands community on Discord where enthusiasts and game players all gather to talk about the game.

On the discord channel, there are places you can talk strategy and get to learn from great players as well.

One of the most important things on SPL is to be part of a guild. Being part of a guild means you’ll be able to take part in brawls. After each brawl, users can earn merits and staked sps. These merits help you get gladius packs which help you get soulbound cards which are very important in the game as well.

In the beginning, a beginner shouldn’t care about the outcome of the battle. This is why you’re first put into novice where you don’t earn until you move to the next level. At the novice level allow yourself to select all manner of cards, and make mistakes. For me, I advise you to win fewer battles and lose a lot of battles. By doing this you get to study the kind of cards people who are better than you bring to battle and how they position their cards to win. Yes, melee are very good cards but they are mostly useless when they are not in the first position.

The opposite goes for range cards, they are equally good cards but most of them can’t attack when they are in the first position.

So it’s mostly advisable to put them in the last position where they have the chance to make moves. Also, remember that when going for cards go in for cards with a lot of health and also a lot of speed. With a lot of speed, you’re guaranteed to make the first move before your opponent does.

Remember that your league determines the type of rewards you’ll earn but then a higher league means you need to have better cards. Don’t rush the journey, level up your summoners first and then your cards. It goes a long way to help you when you get out of that bronze league.

When I started playing I was so confused about what melee, range and no attack meant. It took a lot of explaining from people and YouTube. There were times I said the game cheated me out of a victory cause I didn’t understand how I could lose to someone when we had the same cards lol. But most of those times the person either had a card which was higher than mine or the positions helped.

So what are you waiting for, don’t get left out. Join Spl today and play and earn while you have a lot of fun.
