Getting Back to Splinterlands
Way back in 2021, I created a Splinterlands account and even played my first non-ranked game. It was quite fun to watch the card fight between my opponent and me, although it happened to be my first time, I didn't pay much attention to the game, instead, I was focused on the graphics and eager to win. I didn't buy the spellbook, and I didn't invest in getting some cards. Yeah, I know, it's kind of a rookie move, given how far I could have gone or how good I would have been if I stayed consistent in playing the game. I feel like I missed out on something good. I could have been a top-ranked player by now if only consistency were my motto back then in 2021.

Wait a minute
2021, and now that I am writing this post is 2025, that is 4 whole years of missing out. To me, this feels like another missed opportunity, like how I missed out on getting in on crypto way early. Well, I guess it is never too late, and the only people who truly miss out are those who don't get involved at all, no matter the timing. With this newly formed mindset, I got back into Splinterland but this time with the mission of seeing how far I can go in the game, starting from now to the end of the year. Hopefully, I can make up for all the missed time I ignored over the years.
On getting started
With my new mission of getting more involved in Splinterland and other Hive games, I told my friends on Hive about it, and I was lucky to get a promo code to help me with the spell summoner and a bunch of Concave Standard Arcana packs to help me get started in the game. As they say, show me your friends and I will tell you who you are. So I guess if my friends are Hive gamers, then that makes me a potential one too, right? Do not worry, only time will tell.

Things I got to know about Splinterland
The game is a battle of cards filled with strategy and fantasy. Each card has a purpose or, more importantly, a superpower. There are three kinds of gameplay under ranked play, namely:
- Rank
- Wild
- Survival
At the start of a ranked play, there is the rule of the game, the mana cap, which refers to the number of cards you can have in total for a battle. Although there is also a timeout that comes with this mode when you miss out or refuse to play up to three games in a row. Currently, I am in the Tier: Wood with a Rating of 20, which happens to be small compared to what I aim to get to as I continue playing.
Below, I opened one of the Concave Arcana packs, which has five cards within it. Within this pack, I got the following cards:
- Boring Hobogoblin
- Bristleborn Brigand
- Calabash Sage
- Happy Quokka
So far, I have opened over 15+ packs from the Concave Standard Pack, but I am yet to get any Legendary or Black Foil cards. I have only been getting a rare card with the other four cards. Also, you need portions to get lucky stronger cards, which is the reason why I keep getting this info anytime I am about to open a new Arcana Standard pack: You don't have enough potions for all of your cards. 0/5 Alchemy potions, 0/5 Legendary potions, 0/5 Midnight potions. Are you sure you want to continue? So I figured having a lot of packs, I could sell some, use the money to get portions, DEC or Sps, or even to get another type of cards or rent. Problem with this was that I didn't know how to go about it as I didn't see any option to sell a pack on peakmonsters . After transferring few packs back and forth to hive engine. Finally decided to sell some on tribaldex which I turned out to be a bad idea as I sold for way less. Anyways, got some DEC and I bought some portions and opened more packs. Haven't gotten lucky with any legendary card yet. But, with 55+ more packs unopened, I just might discover Gold. This card stood out to me because of her appearance. She looks like an upgraded version of Korra for Avatar: The Legend of Korra. With her warrior spear and tribal outfit, she would be from the water tribe if it were an Avatar game, but it is Splinterland, and she is Anyu Huntswoman, with the following attributes: Here is another card that stood out to me, more like a pretty alien goddess with that fierce look in her eyes, like she means business. There is no doubt she can be quite an addition to the team, especially when your mana cap is almost complete and you need a card to fill it up, since her attributes are low. Her attributes include: The sugar daddy card, as I like to call it, but it's Thunderous Herald. The card comes with some unique features, but what got me interested in the card is the big belly. It is giving the drunken master vibes, looking defenseless but deadly when battled with. Mana Cap - 6 There are still more cards I will be exploring moving forward and if you are a beginner wanting to getting started in the world of Splinterland, do not worry much, I will be making a tutorial post on hive games explaining how to get stasrted and many more, but it won't be only on Splinterland many more games as. A couple of lines down from now, I can highly predict I would be getting addicted to this game, and this is because of the storyline and not just the various playing categories. There are categories, or more like Tiers, in ranked matches. In the game, when getting started, oh, now I remember leagues, there are leagues divided, starting from the lowest league to the highest, namely: I think you get to these leagues through your battle wins and rank, and when you are starting, you are placed in the Bronze league. That is not all, Tournaments are also held. Making it more fun for players to compete with one another. That is it for now, let me go get busy in the land of Praetoria, where strategy meets fantasy. I am @samostically, I love to talk and write about chess because I benefited alot from playing chess and I love writing about chess. ♟♟♟♟♟♟♟♟♟
