Bringing Down The Little Giant Unexpectedly

2026_SPL_91.png

Hello, there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

It has been quite a while since I wrote a post that includes a battle breakdown. They were the cream of the crop of the game, but just like anything, having too much of it is not a good thing. But then, I got to see this Community Contest Post today, looking for a David vs. Goliath battle, where you looked at your opponent's team and thought that there is absolutely no way to win the battle. Then you checked the results, and you ended up winning the match.

And I think that there is one battle I had that fits the description perfectly. It's not that I won because my opponent got complacent on is team composition or by some sort of RNG.

I won the battle because of the RULESETS at play. So without further ado, let me share the battle that I thought was impossible to win.

Bringing Down The Little Giant

What I'm about to share in this post was a battle between me and tarazkp. He doesn't talk much about Splinterlands, but he's been playing the game very consistently, and as of the writing of this post, he was currently ranked 37 of the Champion leaderboard. Outside of that, he has been very active on Hive, writing things on very interesting topics. I would even recommend you check out his post.

Back to the topic at hand, the battle that I want to share involves the use of Calamity, which is undeniably the most powerful unit among Little League cards, and by extension, one of the most powerful cards in the Modern meta, which is why I called him the little giant. And to get an Idea of the monstrosity that I have to face, here is the Calamity that my team had to beat.

image.png

A total of 9 damage, 33 health, 6 armor, and 12 speed. Taking down a card this powerful is very difficult, unless you play the same card. Unfortunately, I don't have Calamity, and what makes it worse is that Little League is one of the active rulesets, and for those that faced me in the battle, you already know that Little League is one of my main weaknesses.

Battle Breakdown

Aside from Little League, Holy Protection and Born Again were also among the active rulesets, which my opponent did not let miss because he uses Grix and Moribund Arrowbait as part of his team to make the most of the Born Again ruleset, as those two cards will be able to trigger Bloodline Tribute twice and buff the stats of Calamity by 4 times. The rest of his units were nothing but some damage sponges to receive some attacks, which he likely does not mind being defeated since only after that Calamity can activate its Last Stand that will boost all of its stats by 50%.

I, on the other hand, have a very uninspired lineup that even messes up my positioning, because instead of placing Ironwing Juggernaut in the 4th position instead of the 2nd, resulting in Kha'zi Conjurer to lose it use right away, as he goes to the first position as a range unit. And why do I choose a fire team? It's because Fithe Bladestone was my only max-level archon for Little League.

During round 2, the cards with Bloodline Tribute were all defeated, Calamity has doubled its damage, and is already more than enough to take down most of my units in 1 hit. And every time he inflicts damage, that also means that he gains health from his Life Leech ability.

image.png

At round 7, there was finally only Calamity remaining in the opponent team, resulting in the Last Stand ability to take efect, giving him a 50% chance boost on his stats. At this point, I am also down to only 4 units, none of which can withstand its attacks, if not for the Divine Shield that my units got from the ruleset.

image.png

Fast forward to round 16, we are both down to the last of our units, but it's very clear who has the more superior card, in terms of speed, damage, and health. It is not my card.

But at the end of the battle, I ended up taking the victory. Because Calamity's attack was nullified by Divine Shield, which allowed Continuum Seer to attack and defeat it. Just like the others, it was able to revive, but it got zapped and died due to its debilitation.

Closing

And that was it for this battle. I'm sure that, like me, tarazkp really does not expect how that battle will conclude, given that he undeniably has the stronger deck. But just like what I always say, Rulesets are something that you will always consider to think through when creating your team, because there are times that rulesets are more dangerous than your opponent.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
