Introduction

Hello there! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

I'm here for this week's Battle Mage Secrets with the featured rule set Broken Arrows. It is a rule set that disables the use of range monsters in the battle.

The Battle that I will show to you this week was from bltzr-wizard-726 which is the scholar account awarded to me by Balthazar guild that has max level Chaos Legion deck and is currently playing on the Champion league for modern and diamond league for wild but before I show you the battle, let us learn more about this rule set.

Description
  • Ranged attack Monsters may not be used in battles.
  • Main attack options would be left with either melee or magic.

Abilities to Consider:

Buff Abilities
De- buff Abilities
Counter Abilities
Desired Abilities
protect.png Protect
divine shield.png Divine Shield
demoralize.png Demoralize
silence.png Silence
rust.png Rust
backfire.png Backfire
magic reflect.png Magic Reflect
thorns.png Thorns
shield.png Shield
ability void.png Void
amplify.png Amplify
  • Protect and Divine Shield if monsters have extra armor and divine shield, their health won't be reduced so easily while when attacked by melee monsters or use melee monsters to attack the opponent.

  • When there is a Broken Arrows ruleset, expect that the opponent will use either melee or magic so it is better to have monsters with Demoralize and Silence to reduce magic and melee damage of the opponent. It is also expected to have monsters to have armor so Rust could also be useful.

  • Counter abilities will also be handy to have such as Magic Reflect and Thorns which will deal damage back to the attacker while Backfire, when activated, deals damage when the opponent missed an attack.

  • Having Shield and Void would also help reduce the damage taken from opponent attacks and when a melee monster attacks, it only gets 1 damage if it has Shield.

  • Amplify monsters will be handy with this battle as they will increase the damage of Thorns as well as Magic Reflect by +1.

For this battle, we have the featured rule set Broken Arrows which makes range monsters unusable as well as What Doesn't Kill You that gives Enrage ability to all monsters. Given this conditions, I choose the following cards for my line- up:

  • Summoner: Since the opponent might use melee monsters, the extra armor from Kelya Frendul would be helpful to protect my monsters and having extra speed would be an awesome addition.

  • 1st Position: I used Baakjira for my tank since it has very huge amount of health and although it cannot attack, it has the Slow ability to reduce the speed of the opponent and Heal to restore portion of its health. It also has the Void which will be helpful on reducing the damage received from magic attacks.

  • 2nd Position: I placed the Tide Biter for it has Reach and can attack at the 2nd position and True Strike which means its attack will never miss the target. Its Reflection Shield also proves to be helpful in preventing the blast damage from reaching my monsters.

  • 3rd Position: I placed Scavo Hireling to restore the armor of my monsters with Repair while also reducing the speed of my opponent with another Slow. It cannot also be targeted by direct attacks because of Camouflage.

  • 4th Position: I placed Deeplurker to attack monsters with the lowest health as it has Opportunity and to likely afflict them with Poison. Its Demoralize will help to reduce the melee damage of the opponent.

  • 5th Position: I placed Uraeus for a Sneak attacker, targeting the backline of my opponent and to also deal Poison

  • 6th Position: I placed Pelacor Bandit for a Sneak attacker, targeting the backline of my opponent and to also increase the chance of the opponent team to miss their sneak attacks with the help of Flying ability.

Battle Recap

Here is a replay of the battle which at you can watch at 3speak or in Splinterlands.

Did your Strategy Work?

As my opponent focuses on a Anti-magic/magic lineup, I was able to strategically counter it with my melee heavy team, since it practically was not able to penetrate on my tank. My opponent was able to do some significant damage to my backline but without going through my front, it's attack was stopped. At the end, it was reading what my opponent would put between magic and melee was the key that was able for me to win this match. Also, the use of non-damage monsters can also provide some help within this type of battles as long as you know when they are needed.
