Close Range: When Archers Lead The Frontlines
Introduction
Hello there! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
I'm here for this week's Battle Mage Secrets with the featured rule set Close Range. It is a rule set that allows range monsters to be able to attack at the 1st<position
The Battle that I will show to you this week was from bltzr-wizard-726 which is the scholar account awarded to me by Balthazar guild that has max level Chaos Legion deck and is currently playing on the Diamond league for modern and Gold league for wild but before I show you the battle, let us learn more about this rule set.

Abilities to Consider:
Counter Abilities | |||
---|---|---|---|
Protect Divine Shield | Headwinds Rust | Backfire Return Fire | Shield Amplify |
Protect and Divine Shield if monsters have extra armor and divine shield, their health won't be reduced so easily while when attacked by melee monsters or use melee monsters to attack the opponent.
When there is a Close Range ruleset, expect that the opponent will use range monsters so be ready to remove their armor with Rust and reduce their damage with Headwinds.
Counter abilities will also be handy to have such as Return Fire which will deal damage back to the attacker while Backfire, when activated, deals damage when the opponent missed an attack.
Having Shield and Void would also help reduce the damage taken from opponent attacks and when a melee monster attacks, it only gets 1 damage if it has Shield.
Amplify monsters will be handy with this battle as they will increase the damage of Return Fire by +1.

Opponent's Line- up
My Team
For this battle, we have the featured rule set Close Range which allows range monster to be able to attack at 1st position as well as Going the Distance and Silenced Summoner. Given this conditions, I choose the following cards for my line- up:
Summoner: With the rule set at play abilities of Kelya Frendul cannot be used and it is just used to be able to use water monsters.
1st Position: I used Drybone Barbarian as while it is a range monster, it also has melee attack and with the rule set at play, can attack 4x per turn with the help of Double Strike and can reduce the max health of the target with Cripple as well as remove all of its armor with Shatter.
2nd Position: I placed the Merdhampir as secondary tank since it has the Life Leech ability and can increase its health for each time it inflicts damage to the opponent while reducing their health with Cripple and removing the opponent's Flying with Snare.
3rd Position: I placed Angelic Madarin with Triage that can restore the health of a damage back line monster.
4th Position: I placed Swamp Spitter because it can restore the armor of an ally monster with Repair.
5th Position: I placed Supply Runner cause it can increase the health and speed of all ally monsters with Strengthen and Swiftness.
6th Position: I placed Wave Brood for it has the Taunt ability and will force all abled attack to target this card while also having the Return Fire ability that deals damage back to any range monster that attack this card.
Revealing Battle Secrets
Round 1:
As the Taunt from Wave Brood was active. all the abled monsters that attack it got their armor removed and their life damaged due to the effect of Return Fire but it also cost Wave Brood to take all the damage so its now left with only 1 health.
War Pegasus attacks Drybone Barbarian, removing its armor but some of it got repaired by Swamp Spitter which also deal the final blow and defeated War Pegasus.
All the 4 attacks from Drybone Barbarian hits Cornealus, dealing a total of 8 damage and another 2 from Wave Brood turn its health to only 2.
Round 2:
Immediately, after the beginning of the round, Wave Brood and Cornealus suffer their defeat from both Supply Runner.
The opponent made a barrage of attacks on Drybone Raider and got it defeated.
Attacks from my team also cause Gargoya Lion to left the battle.
Final Round:
The round started by my Supply Runner defeating the opponent's Supply Runner as it already received damage from Return Fire and with this, the additional health and speed buff to my opponent was removed,
Attacks from Merdhampir and Angelic Mandarin defeats Venari Crystalsmith.
The battle ends when Swamp Spitter struck Pelacor Arbalest, lasting the match for only 3 rounds.
Battle Recap
Here is a replay of the battle which at you can watch at 3speak or in Splinterlands.
Did your Strategy Work?
With both teams can only use range monsters, my strategy of using Wave Brood for its return damage causes my opponent to received damage even before it gets attacked. Having Drybone Raider also helps greatly because it was able to deal great amount of damage, being it a range monster that can also attack with melee and the ability of Swamp Spitter to repair the armor also allowed for some damage to be sustained.
