Final Rest An Ability Nerfed Into Wazoo

It's been a few days since I made my last post. My internet was down until earlier today, but I was quite busy with real-life stuff, so I couldn't really find the time to write.

Anyway, I'm here to share my thoughts about the recent change to one of the new abilities that comes with the Conclave Arcana set, the Final Rest ability. From being an ideal counter to some of the most powerful abilities, it's now nothing but a shadow of its former self and has become one of the weakest among the Conclave Arcana abilities, in my opinion.

Final Rest is one of the new abilities that was introduced in the Conclave Arcana core set, with Craniax The Quick to be the first card to have the ability. Previously, the effect of this ability was to prevent both enemy and allied abilities that would be triggered after its death from activating. This Includes:

Immediately, this becomes a concern since one of the best features of the card Heloise the Hollow, is its ability to attack the opponent with Spite, which guarantees a 100% counterattack when it is defeated and resurrected through Soul Siphon that the Final Rest can easily counter. The problem is thatHeloise the Hollow, is a premium card that can only be acquired through the auction, and only 100 cards are available. Because of that, the Last Word ability was added to Heloise the Hollow, which provides immunity to Final Rest.

It was still fine at this point since no ability was nerfed, and the balance of the game was still kept.Soon, two new cards with the ability were introduced in the reward cards, it being Thornmaw Berserker, and Rila Fen, and later, Vextali was added from the Escalation mini-set, totaling 4 cards that have the ability.

However, close to the end of Conclave Arcana Conflicts, Final Rest has been updated, where once per game blocks enemy Rebirth, Resurrect, Resurgence, or Soul Siphon, unless that unit has Last Word. The reason for this is very apparent. It was due to the abilities of the final Conclave Arcana Conflict Archon, Dragonlord Mancer, who both had the Scavenger ability for its Bloodline Dominion ability and Bloodlust for its tactics abilities.

With how Final Rest is used to be, this Archon will not be as powerful as it is. Bloodlust, if used correctly, can easily overturn the result of any match, as the unit with this ability can gain a boost on all of its stats if it is able to defeat its opponent. Adding Corrupted Healing to it can increase the chance of your team sustaining the damage it received, even from the heaviest attacks, as it can heal up to 70% of the damage each card in the team has received.

As an Archon that was created in collaboration with the player who purchased the most packs during the presale, having an obvious weakness with Final Rest would certainly devalue the card. We have seen it happen with the Rebellion Archon Nigghoggr, which resulted in much dissatisfaction and was only fixed recently.

However, the way that Final Rest has been nerfed to being a one-time use ability makes it one of the worst in the new abilities so far, and now, all of those powerful abilities have no direct counter to them. In the first place, there were only 4 cards with Final Rests, so they were heavily outnumbered by the other cards, and it's not as if we can use them all the time. It's also still quite a while until the next card set, and if we just kept the number of the cards with Final Rest low, then they cannot be much of a threat to the Archon.

Closing

It is not the first time that an ability or card was reworked, but with how much Final Rest has been nerfed, it has become nowhere near what it used to be. Now it can only activate the ability once, so for example, you have 4 cards with Resurrect, only one of those will be deactivated. The rest will still work as it is. At that point, why even call it Final Rest?
