Introduction

Hello there! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

I'm here for this week's Battle Mage Secrets with the featured ruleset Earthquake. This is a ruleset were all non-flying units received 2 damage at the end of every turn.

The Battle that I will show to you this week was from my @crimepoet account which is an alternate account I'm using with Nfty Arcade max level CL deck and was playing at the modern format, currently holding the 13th position on the Diamond Leaderboard. Before I show you the battle, let us learn more about this ruleset.

Earthquake
Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.

In order to prevent receiving damage from Earthquake, the easiest option is to use units with Flying ability but if it was not possible, you can instead use monsters with Heal so that they can restore the damage they received from the ruleset or Shield which can reduce Earthquake damage.

Flying
- Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability.

- Summoner Brighton Bloom gives this ability to every friendly monster at the start of a battle.

When using Flying units, be wary of the opponent using monsters with Snare cause its target will lose its Flying ability and will received Earthquake damage just like regular units.

For this battle, there's a 57 mana- cap that we can use where the active rulesets were Heavy Hitters, Are You Not Entertained and Earthquake which is this weeks featured ruleset. With this in consideration, my lineup was consist of:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - Reduces the speed and range attack of all opponent monsters by -1 and was a Dragon summoner that allows me to be able to use Dragon units in combination with my chosen element which in this case was the Life Element.

  • 1st Position: Uriel the Purifier - As my primary tank, this card possesses a good amount of health and armor while also having the Flying and Recharge ability at level 1 which gives it 25% chance to avoid melee and range attack and also makes it immune to Earthquake where recharge triples its attack but it skips a turn. It also has Heal that allows it to sustain the damage it receives and when it dies, it will deal 1 damage on all opponent monsters using Redemption.

  • 2nd Position: Adelade Brightwing - With Flying, it can also avoid Earthquake damage while at the same time, it has Repair which restores the armor of an allied monsters and Resurrect which can revive an ally monster. It has Immunity that makes it unaffected by negative status effects and Swiftness which increases the speed of all monsters by +1.

  • 33d Position: Venari Marksrat - Has a relatively low health and can receive Earthquake damage but it has Martyr which increases increases the stats of monsters adjacent to it when this card was defeated and it also have Snare which removes the Flying of the target.

  • 4th Position: Chaos Dragon - Another monsters with Flying with the Scattershot ability at level 1 which randomizes its attack. It also have Blast which deals damage to the adjacent monster to its target and Blind which gives 15% evasion chance to all monsters.

  • 5th Position: Iziar - Was a monster with Taunt which forces opponent monsters to target this card together with Martyr which will give stat boost when this card was defeated.

  • 6th Position: Djinn Renova - Although this card has no Flying it has Triage which allows it to restore the health of the backline monsters and Strengthen which gives +1 health on all allied monsters.

Battle Recap

Here is a replay of the battle which at you can watch at Splinterlands.

Did My Strategy Work?

With the Earthquake ruleset, the easiest way to avoid the damage it inflicts at the end of the round, the easiest way was to have monsters with Flying ability which half of the units on my team have and although the opponent has more Flying monsters than me, the Snare and Martyr specially help for me to prevail on this situation which is a significant win for me since I was pursuing for the leaderboard specially since the ranked rework will remove it next season.

That was it for this post. Thank you and see you at the next one.

yup but its a good thing. I didn't like the top leaderboard of each league being a gatekeep to go to the next league. it really didnt make sense at least in my opinion. if they wanted to keep those rewards they could just do tournaments for those
