Intense Melee Battle When Spell gets Countered
Introduction
Hello there! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
I'm here for this week's Battle Mage Secrets with the featured ruleset Counterspell. This is a ruleset that gives Magic Reflect ability on all monsters.
The Battle that I will show to you this week was from @bltzr-wizard-726 which is the scholar account I'm playing from Balthazar Guild in partnership with Side Door Ventures and was currently playing on Diamond League of the Modern format but before I reveal the battle, let us learn more about this ruleset.
Counterspell
Counterspell | All monsters have the Magic Reflect ability. |
With Magic Reflect, when Magic damage hit the target, this ability does reduced Magic damage back to the attacker.
Deals damage equivalent to the attacker's damage divided by 2, rounded up.
For the summoner, Owster Rotwell gives the same ability on monsters so better not use this card when this ruleset was active.

My Team
For this battle, there's 55 mana cap that we can use where the active rulesets were What Doesn't Kill You, Super Sneak and Counterspell which is this weeks featured ruleset. With this in consideration, my lineup was consist of:
Summoner: Kelya Frendul - Gives +1 speed and armor on all ally monsters which will provide more protection since the opponent will likely to use either melee or range on this battle.
1st Position: Bakkjira - As my primary tank, Baakjira not only has a good amount of health but also got Heal which allows it to restore the damage it takes and Strengthen that give ally monsters +1 health as long as it stays alive. At the same time, it got Slow that will reduce the speed of all opponent monsters and Void that would reduce the damage it receives from magic attacks.
2nd Position: Kulu Mastermind - Since there was the Super Sneak ruleset, it cannot use Opportunity which supposed to allow it to target the monster with the lowest health but what it can do was give damage on monsters with no attack using Weapons Training and it also can reduce damage from melee and range attacks using Shield.
3rd Position: Noa the Just - This monster have no damage so it can be trained with Weapons training. At the same time, it got Rust which reduce the armor of all opponent monsters together with Dodge which increases its evasion chance by 25% and if this card evades an attack, the attacker will receive damage due to Backfire.
4th Position: Deeplurker Also can't use Opportunity but what this card have was Poison which gives 50% chance to inflict poison on the target and Demoralize which reduces the melee damage of all opponents by -1.
- 5th Position: Coastal Sentry - A good melee card that have the Double Strike ability, allowing it to attack twice per turn together with Pierce which allows the extra damage it inflicted to the targets armor to damage the opponent's health. When the target was stunned, this may even deal twice its original damage since it has the Knockout ability.
- 6th Position: Arkemis the Bear - Provides +2 armor on all ally monsters with the use of Protect ability and has Halving that halves the damage of the target. When this card was attacked by monsters with 5 or more damage, it will only received 1 that is due to its Forcefield ability.

Battle Recap
Here is a replay of the battle which at you can watch at Splinterlands.
Did My Strategy Work?
Since there is the less possibility of the opponent to use Magic monsters with Counterspell being the active ruleset, The strategy I made is to focus my team on mostly melee monsters and some no damage monsters that was given an attack with Weapons Training since they were allowed to attack the backline due to Super Sneak and as you can see, my strategy works very well on this setup.
That was it for this post. Thank you and see you at the next one.
