Introduction

Hello there! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

This will be my second entry for this week's Battle Mage Secrets with the featured ruleset Earthquake. This is a ruleset were all non-flying units received 2 damage at the end of every turn.

The Battle that I will show to you this week was from my @agonyaccepted account which is an alternate account I'm using with Nfty Arcade max level CL deck and was playing at the modern format, currently holding the 16th position on the Diamond Leaderboard. Before I show you the battle, let us learn more about this ruleset.

Earthquake
Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.

In order to prevent receiving damage from Earthquake, the easiest option is to use units with Flying ability but if it was not possible, you can instead use monsters with Heal so that they can restore the damage they received from the ruleset or Shield which can reduce Earthquake damage.

When using Flying units, be wary of the opponent using monsters with Snare cause its target will lose its Flying ability and will received Earthquake damage just like regular units.

Snare
- When attacking enemies with Flying, removes the Flying ability and cannot miss.

- Summoner Vera Salacia gives this ability to every friendly monster at the start of a battle

For this battle, there's a 47 mana- cap that we can use where the active rulesets were Fog of War, Going the Distance and Earthquake which is this weeks featured ruleset. With this in consideration, my lineup was consist of:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - Reduces the speed and range attack of all opponent monsters by -1 and was a Dragon summoner that allows me to be able to use Dragon units in combination with my chosen element which in this case was the Life Element.

  • 1st Position: Xyvax Vuul - As my primary tank, this card possesses a good amount of health while also having the Flying and Recharge ability at level 1 which gives it 25% chance to avoid melee and range attack and also makes it immune to Earthquake where recharge triples its attack but it skips a turn. It also has Closerange that allows it to attack at the first position and Deathblow which doubles the damage when attacking the last monster of the opponent.

  • 2nd Position: Gargoya Devil - With Flying, it can also avoid Earthquake damage and it also have Close Range and and Deathblow.

  • 33d Position: Portal Spinner - With Scattershot, it hits random target each turn while with Snare, it removes the Flying ability of the monster it attacks.

  • 4th Position: Runic Skyclaw - Was unaffected to Earthquake damage since it has Flying while Reflection Shield makes it immune to indirect and reflected damage.

  • 5th Position: Venari Marksrat - Was a monster with Snare that can remove the Flying of the target and with Martyr, it will increase the stats of the monsters adjacent into it when it was defeated.

  • 6th Position: War Pegasus - Another monster with Flying plus it has Shatter which automatically removes any amount of armor the target target have.

4-5/5 War Pegasus removes the armor of Gargoya Devil.

Round 6 and 7:

With round 6 and 7, all the remaining monsters have Flying ability which makes Earthquake not to work on them so it was a matter who would deal the most damage but Gargoya Devil keeps on missing when attacking Runic Skyclaw and that was another perks of having Flying which is to increase the chance of missing melee and range attack by 25% and because of this, Gargoya Devil was then defeated by War Pegasus

Did My Strategy Work?

With monsters with Flying ability to be an essential on the Earthquake ruleset, they were expected to be used in battle by the opponent and since this was the case, a good way to counter it was to use Snare ability which nullifies their Flying and without it, I could have probably lost this battle.

That was it for this post. Thank you and see you at the next one.
