Still A Broken Combo

Hello, there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Splinterlands continues to evolve the game's gameplay with all the recent new mechanics that come with Conclave Arcana, making each battle more challenging and fun, not to mention the recent addition of the Escalation mini-set that brings new, powerful cards with interesting abilities and creates new synergies that can change the game's meta. That said, Rebellion still offers some powerful synergies that can still rival the latest card sets to the point that it was almost broken and also difficult to counter.

So in this post, I want to share one of my most abused Rebellion lineups that was still able to give me lots of wins in my battles.

My Broken Combo

Archon: Lorkus

Lorkus is a dual-element Archon with both the Death and Fire attributes, meaning he could summon any units from both elements, giving him more utility. Other than that, it can increase the melee and magic damage of all its summoned units by +1, making each of the units' attacks more powerful. But wait, that's not all, because with Tactics, it can give either Life Leech and Affliction or Trample and Fury ability on up to two units. When using this Archon, I often choose the first option, since not only will it allow my cards to gain more health as they damage the opponent, but it can also prevent them from being healed.

Card Units
  • Main Tank: Grimbardun Smith

Unless Weapon's trained, Grimbardun Smith cannot really help in inflicting damage on the opponent units, as it does not have an attack of its own. But what it offers is a solid defense from all attacks, as it has both the Shield and Void abilities that halve the damage it receives from melee, range, and magic damage. At the same time, it has Immunity that makes it immune to most debuffs and can restore its Armor or any of its allied units with Repair.

  • Support: Baron Fyatt

Baron Fyatt supports the team with its Blind ability that increases the chance of the opponent missing their target by 15%, and through Halving that cuts the damage of that opponent unit it hits by half, along with the help of Scattershot that allows this card to attack units randomly each round, increasing the chance that it will cut the damage of more opponent units. At the same time, it also has Ambush that allows it to attack before the start of the first round.

  • Healer Support: Arachne Weaver

Arachne Weaver does not have that much damage, but it is a very vital support unit, since it has the Corrupted Heal ability that restores up to 70% of the health of all its allied units. It can also inflict Poison on its target, which can result in the target losing 2 health each round, and for every unit that was defeated, it will gain 1 health from its Scavenge ability.

  • Main Damage Dealer: Kelan Gaines

With Double Strike, Kelan Gaines is a very powerful attacker who can attack twice in a round, and with Snipe, it will skip whatever tank the opponent has and will directly attack any non-melee unit of the opponent that is not in the first position. It also has Phase, which allows it to evade magic attacks, and Backfire, which inflicts damage to the opponent when they miss attacking this card.

What Makes This Team Broken?

Simply said, this team is broken because magic attacks are 'mostly unavoidable' and 'ignore most armors', so having three cards with magic attacks whose damage was boosted by the Archon gives better chances to defeat the opponent. At the same time, it has a solid tank, a support that reduces the damage of the opponent units, and a support with a powerful heal. And with my main attacker, Kelan Gaines, the combination of Life Leech and Double Strike means that it is gaining more health, each time it attacks.

In terms of ruleset abuse, it is very effective during Keep Your Distance where melee units cannot be used, or with Broken Arrows, where range units cannot be used. It is also very effective during Noxious Fumes, Earthquake and Global Warming, since the Life Leech from Lorkus allows the units to sustain the damage they received, then partner that with the powerful Corrupted Healing of Arachne Weaver, and they can survive for more rounds.

Battle Showcase

As you can see, this battle has an Earthquake ruleset, so my team is already at a disadvantage since none of my units have Flying, while the opponent specifically uses an Archon that gives Flying to its team, and also uses a combination of powerful Conclave Arcana and Rebellion cards.

But despite that, I was still able to win the match with only Grimbardun Smith, the only unit in my combo that the opponent was able to take down. The other 2 cards in my lineup that were defeated were nothing but cannon fodder that were only there to fill up my remaining monster slots.

Closing

And that was my broken combo entry for this week's Splinterlands Community Challenge. Even with the new modern cards that were added into the game, this Rebellion lineup proves to be still a very powerful combo. At the same time, three of the cards in my combo were Promo Cards that gives 30% bonus in my SPS and Glint rewards, giving me more reasons to spam using them whenever I can.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!

I have played against this combo and can confirm that it's effective. Best counter I've figured out is Kaylia + boring hobgoblin since that reduces magic damage a lot.

yeah... having to reduce its magic will be the best way to counter that team.
