Suiko: The Apex Hunting Dragonkin

For the past few months or so, I have seen news about different Web3 games shutting down their doors, even after raising millions of dollars, leaving players not only unable to play those games, but also making it very difficult to access their NFTs and game tokens. Whether it was due to mismanagement, lack of player engagement, or unfavorable market conditions, I just don't know enough about those games to tell the reason for their fall. But one thing is for sure, that for every Web3 game that closes down, a community is losing its home, and my heart was really saddened for them.

Meanwhile, Splinterlands, despite experiencing both highs and lows as well as its fair share of challenges, is still going strong and is now in its 8^th year, still building to become a better game. And for its 8^th anniversary, they were selling two limited- edition promo cards, which started last August 8. I know I am kind of late in talking about these new cards cause 2 weeks have already passed since the start of the sale, but it just doesn't feel right with me not to talk about them since they also hold a significant role in this new milestone that we had for Splinterlands.

Yesterday, I took a look at Tenrai, the 8^th anniversary Epic promo card that can give an adjacent unit with Kindred Will the Giant Killer ability, which is an ability that does not show up in Modern since the Chaos Legion era, and now I want to take a look at Suiko, which is the 8^th anniversary Legendary promo card.

Just like Tenrai, Suiko is also an 8-mana Neutral card, which means that it can always be used regardless of the available element, but being a Dragonkin means that it doesn't have a Bloodline Archon that shares the same Bloodline as it. Still, this is a really solid card with a max health of 9, max speed of 3, and a max damage of 4, by which if it could be paired with Tenrai, it would gain the Giant Killer ability and could inflict twice the damage on opponents with 10 or more mana.

And since it has the Apex Strike ability, it will always prioritize attacking the units with the highest amount of attack, where those 10+ mana units usually falls. At the same time, the target of this card may lose its ability to heal or be healed by ally units due to Suiko's Affliction ability. Finally, for its Kindred Will ability, it will give adjacent units with Kindred Spirit the Armored Strike ability that will allow them to attack using their armor. And if it was placed next to Tenrai with 3 armor, it can further inflict more damage due to the effect of Relentless Strike.

Buying a single copy of Suiko costs $ 8.88, and players can purchase a copy of the card either with USDC, Merits, or DEC, so players will have multiple ways to grab the card. For the 11 BCX you need to have a max-level Suiko, that will costs about $ 97.68.

After the 30-day period during which this card is available for sale, the Gold Foil, Black Foil, and Arcane Foil of Suiko through Fortune draws. Any player who purchases the card during the period will be eligible for a chance to win one of these rare foil variations, I guess, based on the number of cards that they purchased.

Closing

And that was it for Suiko. Looking at both Tenrai and Suiko, they were both solid cards on their own, but became more powerful when together. But depending on the situation, any units with Kindred Spirit and Kindred Will will do, so long as they are placed adjacent to either of these two cards, cause that is what makes those two abilities more interesting: that you can play with them for different outcomes.
