Tenrai And The Return Of Giant Killer

For the past few months or so, I have seen news about different Web3 games shutting down their doors, even after raising millions of dollars, leaving players not only unable to play those games, but also making it very difficult to access their NFTs and game tokens. Whether it was due to mismanagement, lack of player engagement, or unfavorable market conditions, I just don't know enough about those games to tell the reason for their fall. But one thing is for sure, that for every Web3 game that closes down, a community is losing its home, and my heart was really saddened for them.
Meanwhile, Splinterlands, despite experiencing both highs and lows as well as its fair share of challenges, is still going strong and is now in its 8th year, still building to become a better game. And for its 8th anniversary, they were selling two limited- edition promo cards, which started last August 8. I know I am kind of late in talking about these new cards cause 2 weeks have already passed since the start of the sale, but it just doesn't feel right with me not to talk about them since they also hold a significant role in this new milestone that we had for Splinterlands.
Anyway, I want to first talk about Tenrai, the 8th anniversary Epic promo card, as this card brings back one of the old abilities in Modern.

For an 8-mana card, Tenrai has a pretty decent stats. At max level, it has 8 health, 3 armor, 5 speed, and 3 magic damage, which would ignore most armor and directly damage your target's health, as well as its ability to attack regardless of its position. Aside from that, it was a Neutral unit, meaning you can use it on any element, making it a very flexible card. Its one downside, though, is that, as a unit with Dragonkin Bloodline is that it doesn't have a Bloodline Archon that shares the same Bloodline as it.
For its abilities, it does possess the Opportunity ability that will allow Tenrai to attack the opponent unit with the least amount of health, regardless of its position, and together with Relentless Strike, it will inflict true damage to the opponent +1 if the target has Void. It can also serve as a decent tank, particularly on Wands Out and Keep Your Distance ruleset, as it has the Bulwark ability that will increase the health and armor of this card by +8 when it is in the first position. And finally, with its Kindred Spirit ability, it can gain the Giant Killer ability when it is next to a unit that has the Kindred Will ability.
Giant Killer was an ability that was first introduced in Chaos Legion but was seemingly discontinued during Rebellion, and even the core Conclave Arcana and Escalation Set doesn't have any unit with this ability, so it was the first card in modern that will have this ability. The Giant Killer ability can inflict twice the damage on units with 10 or more mana. Just imagine that partnered with Relentless Strike, and it will certainly be a catastrophe (I'm talking to you Dar 'Gottem' Gearnut).

Buying a single copy of Tenrai costs $ 0.88, and players can purchase a copy of the card either with USDC, Merits, or DEC, so players will have multiple ways to grab the card. If you want a max copy of this card, you will need to buy a total of 46 BCX for about $ 40.48.

After the 30-day period during which this card is available for sale, the Gold Foil, Black Foil, and Arcane Foil of Tenrai through Fortune draws. Any player who purchases the card during the period will be eligible for a chance to win one of these rare foil variations, I guess, based on the number of cards that they purchased.

Closing
And that was it for Tenrai. Honestly, I do not know why Giant Killer was discontinued in Rebellion, but now that they are bringing it back in Conclave Arcana, though not directly, I feel like the team will be more open to adding more cards with the Giant Killer ability in future sets. With lots of high-mana cards now, having Giant Killer can provide a good counter to them.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!
