When Your Units Are Anemic

Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Anemic.png

It's been 3 days already since the Eggstravaganza event has concluded, and for whatever reason, Eggceleration, the supposed to be a limited-time modifier, is still among the rulesets that players can encounter in their match. Not that I do not like the ruleset, but it's just that it kinda loses its exclusivity of being a limited-time ruleset, by it being still available in battles.

Speaking of rulesets, before the event concluded, the team had introduced 2 new rulesets to the game. First was the Elite Force that bans the use of common cards, so there was really nothing much to talk about that. However, the second ruleset, Anemic, turns out to be a pretty interesting ruleset that entirely changes how we play our battles by turning the max health of all units to 4.

In this post, I like to share my approach when Anemic ruleset was part of the active modifier, and what other potential approaches you can take to this ruleset.

When Your Units Are Anemic

Since it was not long ago when the new rulesets were introduced, I still do not have much experience playing under the new rulesets. But that does not mean that I cannot theory craft some strategy to use when Anemic was an active ruleset. Before I share some of my potential strategies, I first want to share the full description of the ruleset.

Anemic.png

Anemic:

Max health, at the start of the battle, is 4.

So, what this ruleset does is set the default health of all units to 4. This means that those units with more than 4 health got their health reduced to 4, while those with less than 4 health got their health increased to 4, making it a more beneficial ruleset for units with low health.

Now, when playing under this ruleset, you can use:

  • Abilities that increase health.

image.png

Although the max health of all units under Anemic was 4, that does not mean that it could not be increased through abilities, like Strengthen, that increase the health of all your allied units at the beginning of the round, or abilities like Life Leech that increases the health of the attacker by 50% of the damage it inflicted to the target. Units with Scavenger will also gain additional health for every unit that was defeated, whether it was on your team or in the opponent's. Just make sure that you place it in a safe spot where it can't be attacked, so it continues to gain health.

  • Abilities that provide protection

image.png

Another approach that you can use under these rules is to provide as much protection to your cards so that it will be more difficult to defeat them, such as having as much armor as you can to protect against both melee and range attacks, or if the card has the Void Armor ability to make it difficult for magic attacks to damage your card. Using Void and Shield may also help to reduce the damage your cards could receive to some extent.

  • Abilities for multiple attack chance

image.png

You can also approach this ruleset more aggressively by using units with abilities that will possibly grant them an additional chance for an attack in order to increase the change of defeating the target when your unit attack if not to posibly defeat multiple targets.

Battle Showcase

image.png

In this battle, you can see that many of the abilities that I mentioned earlier were employed by both me and my opponent, who is none other than the SPS Dao Manager, Clayboyn. We also both chose the same element and Archon to use, but got a huge difference in the cards that we used.

image.png

Fortunately, the first round has ended with me getting the advantage by defeating 2 of my opponent's units, while my team is still fully intact. It does not mean, though, that my cards did not receive some damage. But more than that, you can see that some of my cards have more than 4 health in them.

image.png

Since this was a very low health battle, it did not even last 3 rounds before the match has ended, with me taking the win. I just so happened to get a little lucky that my opponent has missed one of its attacks, and as a result, I ended up winning the match.

Closing

And those were some of the ways on how to deal with the Anemic ruleset, as well as some must-have abilities that you can employ during the match. With the health of all units being very low, you really need to be careful about what lineup you will use because teams that under normal circumstances can win can face an utter defeat when this ruleset is in play. And now that I think of it, this might also be another ruleset that I do not want to see in Survival.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!

Greetings,
It really flips the game on its head! Scavenger units must be absolute monsters here, gaining health every time something dies.
Thanks for the great strategy game
