A Fun Battle Against Our DAO Manager

Introduction

When it comes to playing Splinterlands the game I believe that @clayboyn is actually playing himself and he is actually very good. Most of the times we meet in Modern Champion I actually loose to him as his deck is stronger and he is a very skillful player.

But today we met in Survival Bracket Four and I was able to defeat him.

The Strategy

In Survival bracket four you can play all cards up to Gold league level, this is actually an interesting format where it allows for a lot more card combinations than what we have in Modern Champion it is kind of like playing in Wild just different with card levels limited to golden league.

In this battle we have a fairly high mana ruleset with fifty six mana available and fire, earth life and dragon splinters were available. Since dragon splinter was available my strategy was to go with one my favorite strategies in Survival - the Big Tank Strategy.

The Big Tank Strategy involves playing Nidhoggr summoner with Agor Longtail as my Big Tank. I noticed that this tank is really hard to get through especially when it is combined with Oshuur Constantia, which heals Agor Longtail as well as resurrects it if it is killed. Oshuur Constantia has a blast shield which is helpful as well.

And then after these two obligatory members of the team I add various monsters that have high damage. In this case I have added Conjurer's Hubris as this monster has two attack types and goes once before the battle even starts, I have also added the old epic reward card Lava Launcher as it has a high damage as well as Dhampir Infiltrator that works really well due to her double strike ability and I like that she does a sneak damage in case if the big glass cannons are hidden in the back.

The Battle

We see that Clayboyn went with a completely different strategy that is all centered around high speed and features some really hard to hit cards.

In the first round we were lucky to score a few really important hits and were able to take out his taunt tank as well as one of his main damage dealers. We did have a few misses, but overall we look pretty good at the start of the second round.

Our Big Tank seems to be holding up pretty well as well.

Second round featured some real fireworks and we took some reckless damage which first took out our Lava Launcher and then claimed our meat shield in the very back:

But we did manage to win this battle with four cards still standing.

Good win and almost thirteen thousand points towards the Survival challenge as well as adding another twenty ranked points to place second on the Survival leaderboard so far:

It is actually an interesting experience in Survival this season as bots have two distinct flavors: very easy ones that have a rank of under 1,000 and very tough ones that have a ranking of 1,700 points plus. There is nothing in between unless you count the human players in fourth bracket this season.

Would be interesting to see how this dynamic changes over the course of the season.
