Flying Ruleset Without Legendary Cards in Modern Champion

Introduction

When it comes to Modern Flying ruleset the first archon or summoner I usually think about is the legendary Risquerel Drath summoner that gives all the friendly monsters a flying ability. There are alternatives to Risquerel Drath in the Modern Champion, one of the summoners I like to play in a very high mana battles is a legendary Dragon splinter summoner Nidhoggr and today I am going to share exactly that kind of battle against a former CEO of Splinterlands @yabapmatt or more accurately a Splinterlands scholar @elclements

The Strategy

When I play Nidhoggr I usually use the his Blast and Deathblow abilities with the biggest damage dealers I can put on the field. In this case we have a complication of no Legendary cards that can be played due to the ruleset in effect in addition to the Earthquake ruleset where all non flying and snared units take two physical damage at the beginning of each round, starting in round two.

So with no Legendary cards that can be played I have decided to go with the Death splinter in addition to the Dragon splinter as in death splinter I have some very useful non-Legendary cards that I can play. In particular I am interested in the flying taunt monster Helheim Demon which I only have at a level five out of eight, but still this monster is great for the ruleset in the absence of the Legendary cards. I also can play Arachne Weaver that has corrupted healing that could come in useful as I am going to be playing lots of non flying monsters in this battle. And last but not least Thornmaw Berserker Conclave Arcana reward card that has lots of shield and a set of great abilities in addition to pretty good basic stats.

Another part of my strategy here is to use monsters that have lots of shield so that the physical damage they take is not as crucial. And with that a key card here is Ironcoil Bullwark that has lots of shield and health as well as deals five melee damage and has great abilities of Enrage where it gains fifty percent of melee power and speed, Retaliate where it has fifty percent change to retaliate and Trample where after it defeats the unit it performs another melee attack against the unit in the next position. This kind of ability and basic specs combination makes this a deadly unit combined with the blast from the Nidhoggr.



The Battle

So I also played Night Reaper and gave it blast as it would target the first flying unit due to his Wingbreak ability, I also gave blast to Ironcoil Bullwark and Thornmaw Berserker. Let's see how this battle is going to turn out.

In the first round Ironcoil Bulwark really proved her worth by scoring lots of retaliations and spreading blast damage. My opponent's main tank Doomshield Warden has lost all of his shield and massive health and is about to succumb to the earthquake damage at the start of the second round.

The second round was particularly deadly with Ironcoil Bulwark once again scoring crucial hits and taking out two of the cards from the Yabapmatt's lineup. We start the third round in a great position without any losses on our side and only two cards remaining on the battlefield for our opponent!

And just like that we dispatch our opponent's black foil and gold foil loaded team lead by the Dragonlord Mancer archon without loosing a single card!

It is a nice win and over twenty four SPS tokens as our reward!
