Featuring Bronze League Summoner and Monsters in Action!

I have another great battle to show you in the battle mage secrets series this time featuring the rule set of odd ones out. I like this matchup because it went from thinking I was going to lose to a crushing victory for me. Let's take a look at how things played out!

CHALLENGE RULES

RULESET: Odd Ones Out

Description: Only units with odd mana costs may be used.

Summoners are not affected by this rule.

Reasons Why I like it

Odd ones out can be a fun rule set it really makes you stretch your mind. My brain can remember which cards have which abilities, which cards have the biggest attacks for each splinter but the one thing that I cannot remember is the mana cost of each card down to whether it's odd or even. I can probably name some cards mana, or give a range of plus minus one mana for most cards but remembering whether it's exactly three or four is a challenge for me. I like the additional challenge of setting my lineup in 2 minutes and sometimes having to scrap my plan when I realize that the cards I want are not available.

MANA: 32

Ruleset: Odd Ones Out: Only monsters with odd mana costs may be used.

SPLINTERS: Earth, Life, Death, Dragon

Initial Rule Set and Mana Gameplay Thoughts

  • Rulesets
This is one of the few rule sets that I don't really have much of a thought on how it changes the match before I set my lineup. The only thing I know is that it eliminates life and Earth for having a tank healer, and it eliminates a few more powerful cards in life and dragon that are typically used.
  • Mana
32 Manor should be pretty easy to use up. I think it will allow me to use most of the cards I won't want while still not allowing carte blanche heavy loading of high mana monsters
  • Splinters

Losing both fire and water will be a small hit. Water is a good choice to do with even since most of their cards can be built for a melee attack, especially with the right summoner and reach.

  • Summoner IMMORTALIS
One of my favorite summoners for a couple of reasons. The added void is a great neutralizer to many magic attacks, while shatter ensures that I don't get completely stonewalled by high armor, void armor, and repair that is sometimes seemingly impossible to crack through.

  • First Position PELACORE MERCENARY
Has a little bit of armor, and now with flying and void it will be harder to take down.

  • Second Position BRAMBLE PIXIE
I decided to go with a nice reach card here. While it's speed is not great, the fact that it will also have void and shatter their armor means I am more likely to take out their tank quickly. Between this and pellicore I'm dealing six melee damage to assuming they both hit

  • Third Position SCAVO HIRELING
Since I have some armor in first position I too wanted to give myself a chance to repair that armor and get an extra protection

  • Fourth Position REGAL PERYTON
Well it's strength is not doing heavy magic damage, the speed and flying will likely help it from being hit in a sneak attack, and it's magic attack early will guarantee that I get through the enemies armor before my other monsters attack. It may also get a boost from fungus finger.

  • Fifth Position FUNGUS FLINGER
Putting it here as I hope they use sneak cards and it gets knocked out and gives regal a boost to speed. This would increase it to 7 + flying making it very difficult to hit

  • Sixth Position MYCELIC MORPHOID
Another hope that they're using sneak cards and I can get a cheap Thorn damage on whoever goes first either knocking out armor or health.

Opponent Lineup & Match Play

  • Summoner HELIOS MATRIACH
Interesting choice, while it's a dragon summoner they did not choose any dragon cards but used it to pull up and utilize life
  • DRYBONE BARBARIAN
One of my favorite cards, even though I prefer to use a different summoner with it it's enrage, five damage, and 10 health means it can deal significant blows to the enemy team
  • VENARI MARKSCRAT
Great place for this card, it can provide a boost to both barbarian and two Captain Katie if it's sniped.
  • CAPTIAN KATIE
My biggest concern out here, the fact that it starts with three magic and snipe and has bloodlust means it is likely to be knocking out my cards very quickly and building its stats
  • STITCH LEECH
Not surprised to see stitch leech here as it's a great melee card with for health.
  • URAEUS
Who doesn't like a double melee attack and it's another solid choice
  • GARGOYA SCRAPPER

Personally I think I would have put this card somewhere else, I guess they were concerned about me also having melee and wanted more protection from their attacking cards

Round 1

image.png

As round one place out, I quickly lose scavo hireling and Captain Katie builds its stats already. I also lose mycyclic morphod but get rid of some armor with Thorn damage on the back side. The rest of the round plays out and I get lucky with all of my hits and around ends without any more losses.

Round 2

image.png

Before the round two starts I am happy that barbarian has one health left and will immediately get knocked out by regal perryton. This changes things a little bit for me and gives me hope. I quickly lose fungus flinger but get the very important boost to regal barrington. I now have a 40% chance for a miss off of speed plus flying making it very unlikely to get hit very often. That speed boost and flying create a miss and a very next turn and helps me save my diminishing health. As I knock out Markscrat Captain Kitty gets yet another boost and will be dealing three health damage even after my void.

Round 3

image.png

Round three starts off and I'm feeling pretty good. Even with their big damage I don't think I'll lose any cards while assuming I generate any hits I can get to knockouts. Luckily for me regal's the speed and flying generate another two misses for me, that's three in a row. While I knocked out Captain katie, which is their biggest threat that was left. The round finishes off with pellicore mercenary taking out stitch leech. That all but ensures my victory.

Round 4

Ground Force starts off and I started off with a knockout, quickly followed by another. This round wasn't really even necessary other than a formality.

Thoughts - and Chances to Win Again

NO MORE SPLINTERTOOLS.IO - I think that really sucks. I have no idea who is running this website, and saw a comment that it was not going to continue to do lack of support. I never could find a way to support this website, either through post votes, or a payment. I felt like there was very little in the way of how to make a donation, or pay a monthly fee for access, or to support them via delegation. I wished the owners worked in my vocal there shared posts or updates on websites that I could click through to whoever owned it and show my support there.

Without that tool there's no way for me really to know how good my my lineup was and if it's something I should repeat, or if I just happened to get very lucky and I should choose a different path next time.
