Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Featuring Reverse Speed and a Beat Down of Quura Towershed.

Featuring Bronze League Summoner and Monsters in Action!

Come back to showcase another bronze battle that got bloody. Sometimes you feel like you face the same lineups over and over again and struggle to find a way to beat them. Even if you play the same general lineup that may not be exact you feel like you always lose to something random like attack order, who takes what turns first when the monsters are the same, and everything else. This was a great example of feeling like I was going to lose to ending up in a smashing victory. Let's take a look at how this beat down of quora towershed took place.

CHALLENGE RULES

RULESET: Reverse Speed

image.png

Units with lower speeds will attack before units with higher speeds. Attack Accuracy based on speed will also be reversed.

Units with the Bloodlust ability will increase speed after killing a unit.
Avoid using Slow as this will help your opponent.

Reasons Why I like it

There are so many monsters I like to use that are one speed monsters. This flip the scripts and make some of those monsters that are hard to play because you know they're attacks are very unlikely to hit and make them the monsters that have all the advantage in speed. It makes some of those ugly forgotten monsters the new unstoppable goliaths on your team.

MANA: 34

Ruleset: Reverse Speed: Monsters with lower speeds will attack before monsters with higher speeds. Miss calculations based on speed will also be reversed.

SPLINTERS: Fire, Earth, Life, Dragon

Initial Rule Set and Mana Gameplay Thoughts

  • Rulesets
The reverse speed will have a big impact on which cars played. This will eliminate a lot of those very fast low health monsters that were traditionally hard to hit and may also have flying or dodge. This will bring back some of those old school heavy hitting tanks that might do decent damage traditionally but only if they hit and a very slow moving. I think this benefits fire and Life more than Earth since magic tends to be a mixed speed.
  • Mana
20 mana is really limited and it'll be hard to make a full team. Since most summoners are taking four that really leaves you only 16 to play with and makes it harder to have some balance
  • Splinters

Losing water I don't think has a massive impact on his rule set as most of those cards tend to be speed focused, while losing death might have a bigger impact as they have a counter to magic as well as quite a few either slow speed monsters or Trish strike

  • Summoner TARSA
I decided to go with the tried and true method of adding a health and adding a melee attack. Nothing wrong with getting a boost to both

  • First Position GRUM FLAMEBLADE
Go big or go home, this is about the only monster that's going to do anything on my team. If I have difficulty getting through their armor then it's likely a non-starter

  • Second Position RADIATED SCORCHER
Usually this goes first, it feels awkward putting it here, but I don't want to waste a turn of grum if it would otherwise get a knockout so I'm really torn. I'm playing this versus another one man of card because it's gold point

  • Third Position VENARI SPELLSMITH

Hoping that if they chose to play something with bloodbust or murder that I can eliminate some of the boost here with dispel. I find it very important to play this and or helping alchemist to see what I can do to push down their attacks

  • Fourth Position SORCH FIEND

Pure sneak Canon potter. Hoping it gets in the way and absorbs in the hit if it gets to it

Opponent Lineup & Match Play

  • Summoner LOBB LOWLAND
Pretty solid choice if you're going to play cora. Not a bad choice since it's a double attacking self-healing bloodlust monster
  • FUNGUS FLINGER
Classic lineup for Quara, give it that mortar boost and hopefully it gets on a roll
  • QUARA TOWERSHED
There's a reason why this beast is banished from so many brawls. They can become a real thorn and impossible to knock out sometimes
  • FUNGUS FLINGER
Who doesn't love another zero mana card just sitting at the back waiting to get hit
  • MYCELIC MORPHOID
Love the choice here, who doesn't love a one-man a card with Thorn damage to help hit back on those pesky sneaker cards

Round 1

image.png

For the round starts I'm actually not that confident. Sometimes I feel like I have such a tilted view of the game based on all the times that I've lost where I feel like I should wait. Good news with reverse speed is I start to round off with a knockout of fungus flinger and I get a bloodlust boost to grum. The good news for me is that my speed does not increase as it should have been suppressed lower by LOB. There's also gives a murder boost to quora but ups for speed to four which is clearly the highest.

My next attack turns out to be fairly significant while only dealing with damage, dispel hits and resets quora to two and two damage on this attacks the rest of the round is uneventful

Round 2

image.png

Around two starts and it's tank v tank, but my tank still has some void armor and gets to go first. The round starts off and I deal a great seven damage before it gets to self heal and do a little damage itself. Overall round two was not too impressive

Round 3

image.png

Round three starts and this is where it all breaks loose. I get to do seven damage to Cora to start the round and that's enough to knock it out. This knockout is enough to guarantee my victory moving forward I included around for around 5:00 screenshots if anyone was interested

Round 4

image.png

Got to knock out, and did a little more damage. I do love bug bust, building no stats is just great

Round 5

image.png

Game over. Went from thinking I was going to lose to a solid victory

Thoughts

I'm sure spell Smith and it's a dispel happened to play a decent role in this game, but the other Factor was speed. After the Martyr boost and the boost to my team from their seminar by the reduction of speed I got the deal most of my damage before they got to turn. This helped me build up your massive draining their energy to where the self-healing was not as impactful as it can be.
