Splinterlands BATTLE MAGE SECRETS featuring Rise of the Commons in Bronze
Featuring Bronze League Summoner and Monsters in Action!
I'm back to share another battle mage secret post featuring the rise of Commons rule set. This real set means only common and rare cards maybe used in battle. This substantially eliminates many of the cards that are traditionally favored due to their increased power or abilities. Let's take a look at this two real set match and see how it played out.
CHALLENGE RULES
RULESET: Rise of the Commons
Description:
Only common and rare units may be used in battles.
Summoners are unaffected by this rule.
Unprotected:
All armor is removed from monsters and one cannot gain armor.
Reasons Why I like it
I like the rise of the common rule set because it is sort of a reset and takes the game back to when I first joined. There are now a lot of cards which can be out of financial reach or need to be rented all the time. Removing the legendary and epics can mean that it's a much more even place to start for both teams as most teams almost always have a complete collection of common and rare cards. I think there's a lot of strategy involved in playing this type of rule set as cards have limited abilities.

Initial Rule Set and Mana Gameplay Thoughts
- Rulesets
The rule sets are slightly interesting since it's a rise of the commons using only common and rear cards and a plus a removal of all armor. This further reduces a lot of monsters abilities and protection that they would have normally had. No longer can you count on void armor, or shield and armor to protect you in a lot of cases. It feels like most cards and bronze are exceptionally vulnerable given only 14 mana - Mana
14 mana is a struggle for me for sure. It seems to be so limited in options, and my brain gets stuck focusing on the mana level and not what I could do to make my team better. - Splinters
Honestly I'm not sure if losing Earth life and dragon has a real impact. There aren't very many lineups that I actually like at 14 mana, rice the commons, and unprotected.
Summoner THADDIUS BROOD
I I decided to play death so I could play cursed Wendeku and use the thorns. I decided to go with Thaddeus for the extra- magic plus the minus one health. I thought it was worth the extra mana costFirst Position CURSED WINDEKU
With so few cards to choose from to play, I felt like a decent attacking melee monster card with high health and thorns was going to be crucial. They can't have any armor to protect against the thorns so I feel like it's probably a solid choiceSecond Position WHISTLING DAMON
I snuck in my Gladius card here as this was a brawl. I couldn't decide on whether to put this in second or third position but given the number of low men a sneak cards I felt like the middle was the safest but it could have been risky
- Third Position CARRION SHADE
Put it here as a rear protector. Well not the fastest and clearly no protection, having flying can sometime create a miss or two even at 2 speed
Opponent Lineup & Match Play
- Summoner TARSA
Melee heavy attack is pretty solid, this was my initial thought until I changed and went to the death route - FURIOUS CHICKEN
I haven't seen one of these for a while, sometimes I forget they're out there. I don't have one anymore but they are quite useful - CHIMNEY WALLSTOP
Great choice. High damage, reach, plus eight health means it's going to be delivering some massive damage and it has blood loss so I can build up its stats and recover some health.
Round 1
Luckily for me I have the highest speed of all monsters. That means that whistling Damon will attack first and knock out the furious chicken. This is good for two reasons as it not only moves chimney wall stop to the front allowing cursed Windeku to attack, but it also triggers bloodlust adding another health, speed, and damage.
Cursed Windeku has the second highest speed and lands its attack driving Wallstops health down to 6. Shockingly Wallstops Mrs it's attack while the differential is only a 10% chance for a miss. That leaves me sitting very pretty after round one
Round 2
Round two is a replay of round 1, except for now whistling Damon does three damage and Windeku makes it a total of five. When Wallstops gets its turn, it commits suicide via Thorn damage. This battle is over much earlier than I anticipated. And I think I have the rule sets to think for that. If we were not playing unprotected I don't think I could have survived long enough to take down its health.
Thoughts - and Chances to Win Again
That missing round had me thinking what would happen if he didn't miss. But working through the logic, at the end of round one Wallstop would have delivered to sex damage, while receiving two Thorn damage leaving it only for health to start round two. They then combined to tax of whistling Damon and Windeku is still enough to overcome Wallstop. I think I'm a 100% chance to win this match no matter what happens for RNG. I think the only way I lose this match is if we are not playing unprotected, and Wallstop is able to absorb more damage.
I certainly Miss splinter tools that I owe for the ability to move things around or change things and replay them to see what the likely outcome is.
