Back To Splinterlands -Building My Team to Level 2 Summoners

After selling out early February 2021, I am starting to play again and rebuild my team. Much has changed in the past year, and we have moved onto a new set of cards. Many of these cards are great, but I miss some of the classic Beta and old reward cards. My Goal is leaning towards getting as many cards in 1 BCX GF as I can, but this will be a slow goal. I will get all the epics and legendary in normal that I can as I try to get common and rare cards I use often in GF first. It will be a long road, but it makes sense to me most of the time to buy 1 bcx and not combine it vs trying to buy 14 cards and combine to a level 2.

Weekly Challenge - DHAMPIR STALKER

Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: DEATH
Attack: ARROWS
Abilities: TRUE STRIKE - THIS MOSNTERS ATTACK CAN NOT MISS
Health: 5
Speed: 2
Attack: 3

Reasons Why I like it
I am really starting to like the True Strike cards. They give another option like magic that never miss, and given the increases in speed, and dodge/flying I think it can be critical to a match. It also has a really nice 3 damage and 5 health. While it costs 7 mana, it is well balanced and can fit most matches with decent mana.

Only risk is it can only attack from the back row most matches and its speed is only 2, pushing it towards the later monsters to attach.

The Matchup

MANA: 29
RULES: Close Range: Ranged attacks may be used in the first position.
RULES Lost Legendary: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.
SPLINTERS: Earth, Death, Dragon

  • Summoner Thaddius Brood:
Pretty much a must against the likely Earth team I will face. While there are good dragon cards, I really need to reduce that magic attack as much as possible!! I really like Thaddius Brood in a lot of match ups, taking away a health and a magic can be massive.

  • First position Cursed Windeku
I love this card, and use it the most as my tank. 10 health plus thorns has proven to be the best well rounded tank outside special rule sets.

  • Second Position Carrion Shade
I really like the Carrion Shade as a low mana fodder. For only 1 mana, I get 2 health, 2 speed, Flying and 1 Melee... that is super strong for 1 mana!

  • Third Position Silent Sha-Vi
My 2nd most used card for Death... Honestly three melee damage with sneak is massive. Plus 4 speed means it usually goes really early in the match, and 5 health makes it stick around. I love this card!

  • Fourth Position Magi Necrosi
Another favorite for sure. High mana matches are nice when you get to pick lots of your favorites. Magic snipe, plus camouflage means it will be here until the end. Only way it gets taken out prior is splash damage which should not be a factor this match.

  • Fifth Position Dhampir Stalker
Putting in the rear, with the camouflage of Magi Necrosi, the order does not really matter that much until the end anyways. Hopefully it just rains down lots of guaranteed 3 damage hits!

Opponent Lineup & Match Play

  • Summoner: Obsidian
Classic Earth play at this point, I was hoping and expecting for it. High magic is hard to play against and can cause issues if you cant take monsters out early.

  • Mycelic Morphoid
Nice fodder card to start and deal damage to my tank via thorns. Its a great low mana card to start off with.

  • Mycelic Slipspawn
On of the cards I hate playing against, and can't see to play with very well. Tuant makes it really hard as all your attacks will focus on it and ignore the cards you want to attack. It really is hard when you are playing heavy sneak or oppertunity.

  • Goblin Psychic
Another great card, heavy magic damage, plus tank heal to keep it in the game. With 6 health it will likely be around a while in the match.

  • Venari Spellsmith
Interesting card, I don't play it much. I have not really seen the benefits of Dispel much in action. Maybe its better at higher levels of play outside of Bronze/Silver. I guess it could be good if the tank is only good from Summoner benefits.

  • Regal Peryton
Love/hate this card. I love playing this card, its a great card, 6 speed, 6 health plus magic damage. I can't count the number of times I have missed with sneak... its enough question my sanity some days.

Thoughts
Just looking at it, I feel like I could easily lose it. All that magic and all that gold looks impressive to start. If I didnt play Thaddius I would be in real trouble but things are still on shaky ground.

Round 1

Speed kills, I feel like I always say it but its true and Regal has speed for days. It goes first dropping Windeku down to 9 health. Then I get a few turns with both Magi Necrosi and Silent Sha-Vi dealing blows to Mycelic Slispawn and taking 5 health away, leaving it with only 5 left! Next up is my Cursed Windeku, and it attacks knocking out Mycelic Morphoid, but not before taking another 2 damage from thorns dropping it down to 7. Thorns are so good! Next up they get a few turns with both Vanari Spellsmith and Mycelic Slipspawn combining for 3 damage taking Windeku down to 4 health.

Finally Dhampir Stalker gets in the action and drops the hammer dealing 3 more damage to Mycelic Slipspawn taking it down to just 2. That guaranteed 3 damage is look great right now! The round ends with Goblin Psyic both healthing Splispawn by 3 brining back up to 5, and then dealing another 2 damage to Cursed Windeku leaving it very low at 2 health.

Round 2 Things are Looking Promising

image.png

Lets start round 2, the same way we started round 3!.

Good ol Regal Peryton deals another damage to Windeku, but the it is still around with its 1 remaining health!. Up next is the Magic Necrosi and Silent Sha-Vi combo, dealing enough damage to knock out the Mecelic Morphoid. Glad to have that one gone and the focus can be on the remaining cards. Cursed Windeku, with only 1 health gets its turn and manages to drop Goblin Psychic down to 2 health really turning the tide in favor. The end of Windeku is quick as it is knocked out by Venari Spellsmith on the next turn. I return the favor with knocking out Goblin Psychic by the True strike from Dampir Stalker, and victory looks like a lock. The round ends with Carrion Shade taking a shot and hitting Spellsmith.

Round 3 - The End

image.png

This shouldn't take long!!!

Regal Peryton drops Carrion Shade down to 1 health, an then I drop the hammer. Magi Necrosi hits Regal Peryton for 2 damage, and then Silent Sha-Vi deals its death blow. It was a good hit, there was 2 speed plus flying so a decent chance for amiss, but unlikely to change any outcomes. While they get one more turn knocking out Carrion Shade, my hit from Dhampir Stalker knocks out Spellsmith and locks in my victory!!!

Thoughts.

I was impressed with how my lineup played. I think some of it had to do with my damage as well. 2 monsters dealing 3 damage can really start to impact the game. Not to mention their speed let them go first and knock them out prior to their turns. The guaranteed hits are also nice, no matter your speed or flying/dodge etc you can still be hit and taken out!! I will continue to play Dhampir Stalker when I can as I generally seem to have a good outcome. I talked
