Aiming the Weak

Introduction

It's another Monday and as usual I will be going through a battle mage secrets post. Last week for battle mage secrets, I shared about my strategy and tips for the equalizer ruleset. The theme for this week is Equal Opportunity. In this ruleset, all units get the opportunity ability. This basically means all units will target the lowest health on the enemy's side.

My Strategy & Tips for Equal Opportunity

Equal Opportunity is a fun ruleset. Why do I think it's fun? Well there's many different ways to play this ruleset out. The Equal Opportunity makes a lot of different lineups possible. The main reason being that most melee units without any reach, opportunity or sneak wouldn't be able to attack normally outside of the first position. I will share some of the popular strategies below that I've seen.

One of the infamous strategies equal opportunity gives is the Jared Scar strategy. In this strategy, you played Jared Scar and make sure to have other low health units to tank while Jared Scar just one shots and gains bloodlust. It's a super solid strategy since Jared Scar has true aim and can't miss.

Another strategy that I've seen is the Quora strategy. You use the soulbound gladius and you can get the two unis with matyr next to the Quora. The Quora will just smash through the opponent team and keep getting buffed.

Lastly, there is the counter strategy where if dragon is available, Lily Shieldpaw can be played. Lily Shieldpaw will basically give a free fog of war to the whole team. This counters the whole equal opportunity since the opponent will be forced to hit the frontline unit unless there's scattershot. This Lilyshield Paw strategy is popular with Grimbardun Smith in the front with a bunch of backline support to heal and repair the armor so Grimbardun Smith never dies. Then they will also have some DPS so this lineup will out sustain most lineups.

Some tips I would recommend are using low health units that can tank some hits. Units with shield or void are good. You can also use units with martyr and put them in between two strong units and have it buff them. If you want to play it safe, you can always use taunt units but from my experience taunt units aren't that amazing in this ruleset but it can still work.

The Battle

The battle link can be found here. This battle was on my scholar account, Bltzr-wizard-727. This battle was played a few hours ago in modern ranked. The ruleset for this battle was taking sides and equal opportunity. It was a 26 mana cap battle with all elements available.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner , Grandmaster Rathe - I chose Grandmaster Rathe to have access to Jared Scar. It's also critical to have the void armor with Jared Scar in opportunity ruleset so the armor can tank some hits.

First Position, Pelacor Conjurer - Pelacor Conjurer is my frontline. This unit is one of the best first position units for life to play. It's cheap to own and very good for its mana cost.

Second Position, Chaos Knight - Chaos Knight was to take the opportunity strike damage before my Jared Scar. It's also super useful with the inspire to give Jared Scar one more damage.

Third Position, Jared Scar - This unit is the core for the team. The whole team plays around Jared Scar and this is the MVP that will try to win the battle.

Fourth Position, Vulgine - Vulgine was another melee DPS. It's good for it's low mana cost with 3 damage and it can also help tank the opportunity.

Fifth Position, Dax Paragon - Dax paragon was to help fill the low mana. It was mainly for fodder and to possibly give affliction to the enemy.

Sixth Position, Gargoya Scrapper - This unit was going to be my first unit that I planned to have die. The main purpose of this unit was to tank some hits.

Analysis of The Battle

This battle was insane and demonstrated the possible strategies that I have mentioned above. You can see here I went for the Jared Scar strategy while my opponent went for the Lily Shieldpaw strategy. However with taking sides grimbardun smith wasn't available so my opponent opted to go for the baakjira alternative. If you watched the battle closely, my gargoya scrapper was able to tank 4 attacks. It took the opponent one full round to kill a 3 health unit. This was the power of using Grandmaster Rathe as the summoner. I was able to perfectly kill their Baakjira in the first round since the Baakjira got weapons training and took some reflect damage. It gave me enough damage to clear his main tank. After clearing the main tank it was pretty much a steam roll on the rest of their team.
