EQUAL HEALTH BUT NOT EQUAL SKILLS

Introduction

It's the first Monday of March. Last week for battle mage secrets, I shared about my strategy and tips for the earthquake ruleset. The theme for this week is Equalizer. In this ruleset, all units start out with the same health as the highest base health unit on either team.

My Strategy & Tips for Equalizer

Equalizer has two main strategies. The first strategy is you want to play the max amount of units as possible. This is because of the equalizer so you could have a 0 mana fiend or 1 mana chaos agent with 12 health which wouldn't happen in a normal battle. It will give your team overall more health and damage so that's why you want to maximize the amount of units played.

The second strategy is you want to find units with low base health but strong damage and abilities. Some examples of this is like Djinn Inferni, Kain Hace, Exploding Rats Soul Strangler and any other 4 health and lower units. Usually these units have high damage or great abilities to compensate the low health.

As for what can we played. Honestly, it depends on the mana cap but there's many different plays for all elements. For fire, I like to use Exploding rats here since exploding rats has 1 health and I will usually combine it with some sneak. Another strategy I play in this ruleset is water tank heal and triage. For Earth I also like to play healing with immortalis, goblin psychic and mycelic infantry. For Life, I will look to play mix of magic and range with strong units like pelacor arbalest and adelade brightwing.

The Battle

The battle link can be found here. This battle was on my scholar account, Bltzr-wizard-727. I had this battle in ranked modern today. The ruleset for this battle was close range, counterspell and equalizer with a 21 mana cap. The only elements available were fire, death and dragon.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner , Tarsa - I chose Tarsa because it has good low mana units and I planned to go for a sneak lineup.

First Position, Antoid Platoon - Antoid Platoon is a monster in equalizer. With the ruleset being counterspell, it was pretty safe to play this card for the shield to counter melee and range damage.

Second Position, Venator Kinjo - Venator Kinjo was my 2nd position to protect from blast and give a speed debuff. This was for the situation where opponent decided to use exploding rat and take advantage of the equalizer.

Third Position, Scorch Fiend - This unit was mainly for fodder. You can see how I extracted value from a 0 mana unit to have 7 health and also give a -1 melee attack debuff.

Fourth Position, Venari Marksrat - Venari Marksrat was another fodder. I hoped to have it get targeted by snipe but it's ok if it dies normally as well.

Fifth Position, Tenkyii Striker - The main purpose of this unit was to be my dps and hit the backline.

Sixth Position, Uraeus - This unit was to protect and follow up with my Tenyii Striker.

Analysis of The Battle

This battle wasn't close at all. I think the opponent made a mistake with Jacek since it gave his weapons training units scattershot. I'm also unsure why my opponent didn't use a free 0 mana fiend to maybe put in the back to take some hits from the sneak. I also think I got a bit lucky since both my sneak units managed to hit his backline unit that had +3 more speed than my sneak units which was a 30% chance to miss. Anyways I'm not upset by my lineup. I had a great predict with the kinjo to counter the blast damage.

Do I Like Equalizer ruleset?

Equalizer is a fun ruleset. There are cards with low base health that sometimes aren't used that much. One example is exploding rat. It's pretty rare to see this card being played unless in a ruleset like this. I like how these cards get to be utilized. What do you think of this?
