Introduction

The last townhall on 27th February 2023 came with some interesting updates on what the Splinterlands team wants to push out in Q2 and in the near future. Today I want to discuss some of the things discussed in the townhall like multi-colored summoners, changing ECR, Land 1.5 and Guild Alliance.

Multi-colored Summoners

We got leaked the idea of dual typing summoners for battles. This is definitely interesting and makes me think of Magic The Gathering which also has dual typing creatures and even triple. In my opinion, there is endless possibilities because this doesn't just have to be summoners.

They could also make non summoner cards dual typing which would definitely make battles more interesting. Imagine a card like Gold dragon being both fire and dragon element. You could play it with a normal fire summoner. It would create more possible lineups and it would elevate gameplay.

I'm really looking forward to this and I hope they don't just stop at summoners and consider the possibility of non-summoner cards as well. There's no confirmation on whether this will be finalized but they are doing testing and if it does it get released it will be in the Rebellion set which will be releasing in a few more months.

ECR Recharge To Energy

Another upcoming change is to the ECR system. The current ECR system has been exploitable and it's not very friendly to players and new players so the Splinterlands team wants to make it simpler by changing it into an energy system.

This energy system reminds me of Axie Infinity and I have bad memories with this game because it was way overhyped; I even used to be a manager for that game. Anyways, I think this is a positive change as it simplifies the understanding of the game for new users and stops the exploits from happening. Something interesting planned is to buy energy as well so the player can keep playing. Seems like our voices are being heard and this would be great as it will help people not need to play on multiple accounts to keep enjoying the game.

Land 1.5

Land 1.5 is coming and they released some details saying that there will only be 5 worker spots per plot, runis will give bonuses, DEC will need to be staked on land and much more which can be found from the townhall video if you watch/listen to it. They also said something big about summoners not being needed to work land. This goes against what they said before and it seems like the Splinterlands team always changes their idea on something so we shouldn't take everything they say to the book as anything can happen.

This is planned to release in Q2 which is pretty soon as we are nearing the end of Q1. I think this is what a lot of people are waiting for and there might be a huge fomo on land. I predict that card prices and rental prices will go up upon release as people will be staking their max level cards on land as workers.

Anything can happen and who knows they might take back what they say and decide that a summoner is needed with the 5 workers. Personally, I don't have a plot yet but I do want to get one in the future and my friend might actually get me one for my birthday which is in September so that would be nice.

Guild Alliances

Guild Alliances have been scratched off as the team thought it would not be ideal to create a new guild alliance structure and coding. It seems like instead they want to add new features to existing guilds as well as add more guild buildings.

I kind of have mix feelings about this. It's great that they will put more value into guilds but I'm not psyched about adding more building as I will need to spend more DEC to upgrade those buildings. There's still not many specific details about it and no photos so we will have to wait and see in the upcoming townhalls if this is really going through because it's planned to release in Q2.

Conclusion

It finally seems like the Splinterlands team is focusing on the game and less on the token and economy aspects which I'm happy about. I really think this is the way to go if this game wants to reach the level of Hearthstone and Yu-gi-oh Master Duel in terms of popularity. I would love to see a mode where it's ghost cards for all players and there would be no transactions on hive involved. It would just be a normal free to play game and this mode would have no earnings. It would just allow the people to try and enjoy the game as well as play even though they have no energy. I feel this would be a solid way to help onboard more players into the game. Anyways that's all from me today.
