Not So Upclose

Introduction
Happy Monday everybody. I had a super busy weekend helping with charity and now going to be doing my battle mage secrets challenge. The theme featured this week is Up, Close and Personal. In this ruleset, you are only allowed to use units with melee attacks. Take note that you can use melee units with dual attacks like melee + range and melee + magic. This note can make or break games.

My Strategy & Tips For Up, Close and Personal
Up Close and Personal is very straightforward to play. The best tip I can give is to find units with magic + melee or ranged + melee as these will give you an absurd advantage. In addition to that, look for units that have shield, demoralize, thorns as these are super strong abilities in this ruleset. Shield can basically halve any damage, demoralize will basically reduce all melee damage since you know they are playing melee units. Lastly, thorns is for reflecting some damage back on them.
Aside from that, it's also good to find units that can attack from the back positions with sneak, opportunity, and reach. These extra attacks could get the win for the battles.
As for summoners, I will look for summoners that can manipulate melee damage like Tarsa, Zintar or just some speed manipulation like Jacek, Kelya , Quix would be ok as well. One of the god tier summoners for this is Mylor because it gives thorns to whole team. When I was starting out, I got totally rekt by this Mylor strategy for this ruleset. They would just demoralize and basically you would just kill yourself. It's a pretty cheese strategy against newbies.
Personally, I find Death, Water and Fire or mix with Dragon element to be the stronger elements (Earth if the player owns Mylor) in this ruleset. They have strong melee creatures and good units that counter melee with demoralize or thorns. With Mylor gone after Untamed is phase out of modern I think Earth element won't be too ideal in this ruleset anymore unless in some special cases.

The Battle
I played this battle on my own account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. I played this battle in my last brawl. My guild won first in this brawl! It's wild diamond and I fought against Lord-Of-Fire from Goat Gang. Luckily, I had home advantage so I knew he couldn't play Quora against me and you will notice this advantage in the battle.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Immortalis - Immortalis was my summoner which I played so I could use Quora. Ideally, Mylor would have been the better Summoner but I don't own a max Mylor and to rent a max Mylor is super expensive.
First Position, Mycelic Infantry - This unit was my frontline because of the shield. It would have any melee or ranged damage.
Second Position, Pelacor Mercenary - Pelacor Mercenary was my backup frontline. It wasn't needed to attack. It was just there to be the second frontline that can heal itself.
Third Position, Quora Towershead - Quora was my MVP. I'm lucky enough to have mine at level 3 so it does have immune. As you can see that extra magic damage attacking in the back helps do damage since there's a fog of war ruleset.
Fourth Position, Legionnaire Alvar - Legionnaire Alvar was mainly chosen for the demoralize. It's synergizing with my frontline with shield to reduce as much damage as possible.
Fifth Position, Disintegrator - Disintegrator played a similar purpose as Legionnaire Alvar but I had this unit in the back because in my head I thought it could retaliate sneak but I forgot it was fog of war.

Analysis of The Battle
I completely destroyed my opponent. You can see that even Splintertools gave me a 100% winrate because the opponent just didn't have a chance. I think the opponent forgot that there was fog of war as I can see he played 2 units with sneak. I had more damage than him because of the double demoralize and the shield. My frontline was able to tank a crazy amount of damage. It was also able to do a lot of damage with giant killer against his two frontline units that cost 10 mana. I think my opponent tried his best but he just didn't' have the card to fight me. Maybe he would've tried Earth if he had Quora available. Anyways this is the power of home advantage!

Do I Like Up Close and Personal?
Up Close and Personal is alright to play if you have the extra units with the melee + ranged and melee + magic. I think it's an alright ruleset but it's not fun to play if my opponent has Mylor. Aside from that, I don't think I like this ruleset but I don't hate it either. It does make the gameplay quite simple and straightforward so there isn't really anything too surprising in this ruleset. I guess I don't lke it up close and personal :P.
