Last week, I shared my thoughts on the most recent townhall on February 29. Today, I'm going to be covering my thoughts on battle helpers which has become one of the hot topics lately in the Splinterlands discord and even from Splinterland influencer discussions on YouTube and other social media.

For those that aren't awake yet, battle helpers are a program that help assist a player by basically giving them the most optimal lineup for the particular ruleset based on the collection they own. It's kind of like chess engines showing chess players the most ideal move by analyzing all the possible outcomes with past data. However in chess, it's frowned upon when using it in live play or tournament play. It's to the point where the players will get banned from the online site or tournaments if found caught using a chess engine. However, it's ok to use chess engines to analyze after the game for improvement purposes.

I think Splinterlands should adopt this similar method. We shouldn't have battle helpers being used in any live play. Any player found using should be banned from playing as it ruins the fun of the game. If we are leaving battle helpers up, we might as well just let bots play in modern again what's the difference between someone manually keying in the same lineups a bot would've done. Unfortunately, I don't have any proof to show that battle helpers are existent in modern and tournament play. However I have heard from Splinterlands discord that Xbot is running a private battle helper service and there's money being sent to Sylar's wallet which is show on the blockchain so this already seems suspicious provided if it's true. You can also check out that their battle helper extension is still there and it's even updated!

I do strongly believe battle helpers exist though and I'm sure sooner or later they will be caught. I'm not here to witch hunt people that use battle helpers. I'm someone that has been playing in high diamond and low champ for months now on a scholar account and it has been incredibly frustrating to face against these super optimal lineups.

Don't get me wrong though there are great players out there which I have seen like charles which Psilence had a video of and streamed live. There are some players though that I don't feel are playing with their own skill. There are some players with some ridiculous winrates and it's been consistent in ranked play and tournaments. I would love if Splinterlands could check these players out and if it's possible I would love to see these players to stream and discuss the strategy behind their lineups. They can hide their face if they want to but I would just love to see their play and their reasoning behind the lineups. I feel this is fair and it still protects their privacy and identity since we are in crypto.

I think battle helpers are ok if they are being used as a tool for post game analysis to see what could've been the better play but it shouldn't be used to just play the best lineups. Please Splinterlands, it's clear the community wants something done about this. Some other ideas are making the game more complex. I think the tactics stuff just wasn't strong enough. Hopefully, we can see some improvement with spells and items.
