Introduction

I'm here to share my challenge blog post for the Share Your Battle Challenge. The theme featured this week is Spirit Hoarder. I will be sharing when it's best to use this card and analyzing one of my battles where I used it. If you play Splinterlands, I highly encourage you to start participating in these challenges as it can definitely help you get some earnings to improve your collection of Splinterlands cards.

When To Use Spirit Hoarder

I feel Spirit Hoarder is great at any league. There are some rulesets where this card is really strong. This card is good in equalizer ruleset. Since it has low health, giving it the same HP as the highest on the board is super good as it will also make the healing from triage stronger. Usually in this equalizer ruleset, I like to play this spirit hoarder with Wave Brood and River Hellondale. In addition to that, this card is good in little league + wands out ruleset. Also very situational but this card can also be good in noxious fumes ruleset if there's no sneak since it can heal itself to counter the poison if you place it at the back. This card is also generally good in bronze and silver if you play Obsidian. You can play the Mycelic Slipspawn in the back with taunt and the spirit hoarder will heal it.

The Battle

I played this battle on my own account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in silver modern league. The ruleset for this battle was standard meaning there were no rules. It was a 38 mana cap battle with all elements banned except for water and earth. Usually in this ruleset with water vs earth, it's ideal to play Obsidian or Immortalis as it counters Kelya and there's not that many people that actually rent or own a Bortus at silver level.

Discussing My Lineup

image.png

First Position, Regal Peryton - I chose Regal Peryton for this position since it had decent hp and it has flying to help melee attacks. It wasn't going to get hit by magic or range because I had a taunt in the back so it was an ok tank to put upfront since I was going for a full braindead magic spam team.

Second Position, Magi Of Chaos - I chose Magi Of Chaos as a magic damage spammer. It also had decent health for my Goblin Psychic to heal which is why I placed it in this position

*Third Position, Goblin Psychic - I placed Goblin Psychic in this third position as a support. It's main job was to heal Regal or Magi and itself when it reached the front so it can stall the opponent from reaching the backline.

Fourth Position, Spirit Hoarder - The purpose of Spirit Hoarder was to triage and heal my Mycelic Slipspawn which had taunt to take damage in the back which would guarantee my triage would have something to heal.

Fifth Position, Queen Mycelia - The main purpose for Queen Mycelia was to add armor to the whole team. This is why I placed it in the fifth spot so that it was supposed to die last because if it died too early then the armor buff would be gone as well.

Final Position, Mycelic Slipspawn - Mycelic Slipspawn is the true tank of this game. With it's taunt, it just had to soak up as much damage and stall for my magic spam to destroy the opponent's team since it could also get healing from the Spirit Hoarder.

Did My Strategy Work? & Would I try differently next time?

Yes, my strategy worked. Magic spam is usually quite strong against Kelya in bronze and silver league. The biggest counter to it though from Kelya is Oshannus. In this battle, my opponent did play Oshannus which is quite scary since it had phase and most my magic spammers had low speed so there was a chance that I wouldn't even be able to kill the Oshannus fast enough. I do think I won because of RNG since my magic spammers were able to land a hit on the Oshannus even with a 40-50% miss chance. As for trying differently next time, I don't think I would. If I did, maybe I would play Immortalis with a strong frontline and a mix of range and magic in the backline.

Do I Like Spirit Hoarder? Why Or Why Not?

To answer this, I love Spirit Hoarder. It's a great neutral card with low mana cost so there's plenty of cases where it can be used. I actually own a couple copies of this card as well. If I'm not mistaken, one of the copies is from a SPLTV giveaway.
