Town Hall 272.png

Introduction

Last week, I discussed about battle helpers and my stance on them for the social media challenge. Today, I want to cover my thoughts on the most recent townhall on March 14 2024. I will cover my thoughts on the new ruleset (Shades of Gray) and what Matt said in regards to rank rewards, rank overhaul, battle helpers as well as dabble into some of the future updates.

New Ruleset Shades of Gray

image.png

In the next update on Tuesday, a new ruleset called Shades of Gray will be added. In this ruleset, only neutral units can be played. I think this will be very interesting to play and we will completely see new lineups since most lineups use non-neutral units. If combined with other rulesets, I think the options could be very limited though so I wonder how that will go. I think this will make cards like Arkemis the Bear, Grimbardun Smith, Dr Blight and other solid neutral units super strong in this ruleset. This will also give more value to non-neutral units since they get their very own ruleset. I can't wait to play around with this ruleset. What about you?

Ranked Rework Update - Good News!

We got more info about the ranked rework update. They even gave a date of April 2nd. This means about two weeks to get ready. I'm pretty hyped for this since having to advance made my chests got me less chests which kind of made me feel like I'm getting less rewards.

To summarize, we will be getting glints instead of reward points and this can be spent on a reward shop that will include: reward cards, potions, energy, merits, limited edition titles. Something important to note is that with this update Gladiator cards will be burned for merits instead of DEC. I highly recommend to burn whatever gladius cards you are ok parting with. If you aren't playing gold foil frays just burn them. You can always get new ones. We will have to wait for a post about it which will come before the update but this post will be more detailed than what we know now. I can't wait to see how this goes.

Matt's Thoughts on Overhaul of the Ranked Battle System & Battle Helpers

During the townhall Matt gave his thoughts on the overhaul and battle helpers. The update was quite big and made a huge impact towards our economy and gameplay. I agree with him that it will take time to settle in. I like how he said the team would be listening to community feedback. This is important to make sure they are doing their best to make the community happy with the changes.

I think we are lacking match liquidity if not the system is actually quite good. By this I mean the problem now is that we are missing the low-middle end players. Most people are having max decks or renting out max decks which is making it feel unfun for the non-max players since they are getting matched with them.

There was talks about Splinterlands making non-spellbooks accounts to not have rewards but they would be delegated cards to fill match at every league to help with the match liquidity issue I mentioned. This will be interesting as if these are bots are easy to beat then they would be in a sense just giving free rewards to players and that could be controversial. Would someone be allowed to just keep matching and farming these bots?

Future Updates

One click set rentals
Onboarding experience
Mobile app
Marketing and promotion
April 17th Bitcoin halving promo card event
DAO proposal in the next few days
SPS validators
Starting in Q2 the plan is to put a team together to get validators live
Land
DEC grain market is finished and in testing
Should be released within a month

They also mentioned some future updates that I found exciting. I'm someone that does rent a lot for a few accounts so having a one set rentals would be amazing. Onboarding experience will be great because it's not that easy for new players to come in. I hope with this onboard they will include some social logins to help people get in easier. I also like playing on the go and having an update to the mobile is huge. Almost everybody in the world has a mobile phone so this would also help onboard more players. There should be a way for Splinterlands to create these hive accounts for these new users that are logging in with their socials and when these users are ready they can learn about the crypto side.

Then I'm looking forward to the promo on april 17th. I will try my best to participate in this as promo cards are usually good and it will most likely have a halving ability which is kind of rare so I want it. I'm not really interested in the other future updates as much so I won't go through those ones.
