Special Splinterlands Summoners Series - Supplemental Splinters

How's that for alliteration? 😀

So, I put the first two on Twerkie-blue-bird. But I thought it might be better to capture them all here, in one post.

Thoughts behind the design:

  • No Dragon, because Dragon already does this unlimited
  • Neutral cards behave as they are, so not in here either
  • Useful when you need "just that one card" to boost your team, by allowing one off-splinter card
  • Named after meaningful events on the Earth, hopefully will bring awareness of them also

I have most of the options started already. These are just ideas, and I'd love for it to be more global than current, so if you have any ideas from your homeland, please comment below.

Fire Primaries

Fire Wave

  • Splinter: Fire
  • Ability: Summon One Water Monster

A geological formation in The Valley of Fire, near Overton, Nevada, USA, where the Fires of the desert seem to have turned water into stone, creating a formation named the Fire Wave. It is rumored that paranormal activity occurs in this area of the world, as well as with this summoner.

Surtr's Island

  • Splinter: Fire
  • Ability: Summon One Earth Monster

A volcano offshore from Iceland created this island in the 1960's. It has persisted since, showing that Fire can summon Earth, and do so with persistence.

Eucalyptus Tree

  • Splinter: Fire
  • Ability: Summon One Life Monster

Eucalyptus are one of the few knows trees to have pyrophtic, or fire-activated, seeds. The seeds are sealed in a coating that melts in the heat of the fire to break dormancy. So it is fitting that this tree can summon Life from the Fire splinter.

Ol' Mother Murphy

  • Splinter: Fire
  • Ability: Summon One Death Monster

There was a catastrophic fire in the city of Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1871AD. Because of how devastating it was, it became a story to tell children to not leave lanterns burning where cows could kick them over. The story then evolved into a song, about this summoner of fire creating death as well.

Water Primaries

Cuyahoga River

  • Splinter: Water
  • Ability: Summon One Fire Monster

This is especially poignant right now. The world's pollution is awful. And a reminder of this is no more apparent that the Cuyahoga River, near Cleveland, Ohio, USA. It is said to have caught fire at least 12 times in recorded history. That's right, a river that burns. A fitting name for a card that can summon fire from water.

TBD

  • Splinter: Water
  • Ability: Summon One Earth Monster

Name TBD, possibility for cross promotion with a Scotch company

  • Splinter: Water
  • Ability: Summon One Life Monster

Scotch is an adult beverage that many people enjoy very much. And with the nickname "water of life", the ability of this summoner is apparent right from the start. This beverage is enjoyed by adults in many styles, on every continent of the world. But Scotch is only made in Scotland, so your card is well travelled.

The White Ship

  • Splinter: Water
  • Ability: Summon One Death Monster

In the 1100s, a ship was crossing the English Channel and broke apart off the shore of Normandy, France. All 300 people on board died, including the heir to the throne of England. While not the most tragic shipwreck in history, it is a telling story of how the Sirens of the Sea pay no mind to titles.

Earth Primaries

Piton de la Fournaise

  • Splinter: Earth
  • Ability: Summon One Fire Monster

The third summoner in the list, represented by the third most active volcano in the world, Piton de la Fournaise, La Réunion Island, France Overseas Territory. The ability for the earth to summon fire has always amazed humans, and this card would be an awesome addition to any lineup.

Kotoji Lantern

  • Splinter: Earth
  • Ability: Summon One Water Monster

Inspired by a trip that I'm preparing a blog about, there is a world-famous garden lantern in Kenroku-en Garden, Kanazawa, Japan.
It is a rare style of garden lantern, because it has two legs. Additionally, each leg is in a different "splinter". One leg, water. The other leg, earth.
Therefore, I propose the first Summoner of this series to be called Kotoji Lantern.

TBD

  • Splinter: Earth
  • Ability: Summon One Life Monster

Mount Vesuvius

  • Splinter: Earth
  • Ability: Summon One Death Monster

Keeping with the volcanos for the primary Earth splinter, Mount Vesuvius, Campania, Italy is famous for a mass-death of humans in the towns of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, and several other settlements, when it erupted in 79AD.

Life Primaries

Kamuy-haci

  • Splinter: Life
  • Ability: Summon One Fire Monster

According to Ainu beliefs, this goddess is one of the most powerful kamuy, and stays at the hearth to bring life to her people. Because she brings life, through the warmth of the fire-laden hearth, she is allowed to summon one Fire splinter card. It may seem strange that she is primarily a Life summoner, especially when the hearth is used to communicate with the dead. But the overwhelming factor is how her strength keeps the people near the hearth warm and fed.

TBD

  • Splinter: Life
  • Ability: Summon One Water Monster

TBD

  • Splinter: Life
  • Ability: Summon One Earth Monster

Hognose Snake

  • Splinter: Life
  • Ability: Summon One Death Monster, without Poison ability only

When threatened by a predator, the Hognose Snake performs a death of dance, to stay alive. This strategy is used because predators tend to prefer live catches to prevent from getting ill. Thanatosis is the name of this fake death, used to preserve the snakes life. It is a non-venomous snake, so Poison is not an option with this one.

Death Primaries

Countess Bandi

  • Splinter: Death
  • Ability: Summon One Fire Monster

Countess Bandi, known as Corny to her friends, is the first recorded case of spontaneous human combustion, where the body simply combusts without an external ignition source. This summoner is the ghost of the Countess, from which Death can use that internal Fire to summon support.

Great Pacific Garbage Patch

  • Splinter: Death
  • Ability: Summon One Water Monster

TBD

  • Splinter: Death
  • Ability: Summon One Fire Monster

Apemerukoyan-mat

  • Splinter: Death
  • Ability: Summon One Life Monster

Replicant to Kamuy-haci, her full name is used here, to show her true meaning, which is to provide a pathway for the dead to speak to the living, through the hearth that she manages. This would also be the first time the same summoner appeared across two splinters, or even three if you count the secondary Life summoning.
