Splinterlands Cards Vs. Packs (What Should You Buy?)

avatar

Hello Splinterlands Community! My name is Shleep and today for my first post in Splintertalk i am covering the very controversial topic of whether to buy CL packs or buy cards at the current prices.

Before answering this question we all have another question that we need to ask ourselves; Am I looking to play the game comfortably and rank up, Make investments for profit, or a little bit of both? This is an important question to ask yourself before even beginning to think of planning a goal for yourself within the game of splinterlands. As many of us already know this, lets get into the good stuff.

As we all know Chaos Legion general sale is set to release January 17th, which is 12 days from now. Each pack will cost $4 (Only payable in credits) without the need to have vouchers, unless you are eligible for bonus packs. This release is not only a big deal for the game of splinterlands but the community as well, seeing that it provides a whole new world of oppurtunity for experienced and new players alike. Here are some strategies and thoughts on the topic of discussion, Packs Vs. Cards.

(NOT INVESTMENT ADVICE)

From a player standpoint the plan should be pretty straightforward.there's two options here. Either buy Cards for preferred splinters while they are fairly cheap (safest route), so that we can level up the cards that we know we will use and save ourselves from the "gambling Factor" of opening packs. The other option of course would be to buy packs, keep what you like, hope for a GF Legendary or Summoner in order to increase card power or sell for value that you can put elsewhere But what if we look at it from an investors standpoint?

As an investor There are a few more ways that we can determine if cards or packs are best for you. First, How big is your risk tolerance? If you think that you may have little to no risk tolerance, You might want to either:

A.

Buy packs from Splinterlands,(on release day) or Hive Engine (just after release day when the price may dip below $4) to HODL and then sell once they reach your preferred selling point. (Take into account Untamed/Dice packs are selling for about $40 currently, The highest for both have been around $100) As well as gain airdrop points for holding packs and build up your SPS from airdrops.

OR:

B. Buy all kinds of cards (common,Legendary, GF) Right now or just after Chaos legion general sale, (when the prices will be the cheapest they will ever be) Then wait until more BCX are burned of Chaos legion and sell cards as prices increase.

If you have a higher risk tolerance, maybe you'd like to buy as many packs as possible and open them in order to recive airdrop points from collection power, as well as hope to get lucky and pull some gold foil legendaries and summoners.(To sell for value or keep for airdrop points) As we all know this is the most risky way to go about any card pack release, Even within sports cards and other trading card games. But what if you'not only interested in the investment, but the gameplay as well?

Well, This would describe myself. I am somone who plays the game daily and is interested in not only increasing card power in order to rank up and play the game at a higher level, but am also intrigued by the investment oppurtunity that CL General Sale will provide. As someone who considers themelves in between both a player and an investor I would like to share my strategy for how i am approaching CL General Sale. I plan to buy 100 Packs the first day of general Sale. Assuming that i own at least 10 vouchers i will then have 100 Packs to open, hold, or sell as i please. For context i am a Bronze 1 Player who is just a few thousand CP below the threshold for Silver 3. My plan is to open 75 Packs for CP and keep the extra 35 to HODl. Assuming eventually that CL packs reach $40 and that i sell them all at that point(Not likely), Selling all 35 packs would account for $1400 of value from an initial $400 spent . ($1000 Profit) With that money i can then buy my first plot of land, older cards that are outside of my price range at the moment, invest in sps, or even all 3. For the fun of it lets imagine that i am only looking at it from an investor standpoint and we sold all 110 Packs at $40, when CL packs reaches that price point after CL sells out. That would be amount to $4400 in assets($4000 profit), which can be absolutely life changing for certain people. Keep in mind this is without diving into the aspect of how much sps would be acquired through airdrops for holding these packs for the amount of time it'd take packs on the secondary market to reach a value of $40.

Is this a bullish take on my startegy for and thoughts of Chaos Legion General Sale? Maybe, But like many i believe in this games future and its dev team. None of this is invesment advice take from it what you will but i appreciate the time an attention you've taken in order to read it. Thank You!
