Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - Another week, Another Challenge so here's my entry....

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

Centauri Mage - one card I rented early on to make a decent Earth splinter team. A high mana cost but a very useful second slot card with her high health and return fire which can get those nasty snipers that try to bypass your tank! Magic attack too which is great (as long as the opposition doesn't counter magic with reflect or the void ability.

The Battle

With a 22 mana cap, standard rules and all splinters allowed meant it was hard to strategize. The opposition used varying splinters too so I had no idea what they might go for. Centauri Mage is a bit hard to include in this cap but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Summoner was Mylor Crowling (from Earth of course and we always love thorns - when they're working for you of course!).

Unicorn Mustang up front - for the void ability mainly but also the solid melee attack and high health. Four speed also helps as the mustang can get some dodges in.

Centauri mage at second slot - to take shots from any snipers and return their fire.

Wood nymph in last slot - for the heals and she took up the rest of the cap. If I had used Earth Elemental instead of Centauri Mage I could have a card behind the nymph to protect her from Sneakers but not to be in a 22 mana cap battle requiring the Centauri Mage!

So what would my opposition go for.... they went with Death. Zintar Mortalis for the minus one melee buff as the summoner.

Haunted Spirit - up front to tank

Skeleton Assassin in second slot and Undead Badger for some sneak/opportunity attacks with minimal mana cost

Undead Priest for the weaken ability - great to weaken the backline for quick sneak/opportunity attackers to pick it off.

Elven Cutthroat for some more sneak attacking.

Tower Griffin to fill up the lineup with flying (dodge) at the back and a small ranged attack.

A solid team, not sure if I'd do it quite the same - instead of the Griffin, I probably would have chosen Dark Jester (two snipe ranged attack) or Dark Astronomer (two ranged attack). Both with the same health but more useful attack power I think. Difficult to combat my team that being said as it has Melee (thorns), Magic (void), Ranged (return fire) all in play to hurt the opposition!

And on to the battle:

Turn One: Mustang goes first hitting chipping at spirit. Skeleton Assassin has a pyrrhic victory against Wood Nymph thanks to thorns and dies. Undead Badger and Elven Cutthroat suicide on Centauri Mage while the Centauri mage chips at the Haunted Spirit. The Griffin hits the Mustang and Haunted Spirit misses the Mustang. Haunted Spirit did heal though leaving it with six health. Mustang ended the turn with eight health (from the one Griffin hit). On the face of it things could be dicey- He could take out my mustang in three turns (he can do three damage a round). and if I don't take out his spirit before Mustang goes down I'll be in trouble! BUT - that awesome ability thorns will bite him badly. The extra two damage every time he hits with the haunted spirit will mitigate it's healing ability and help me take it out.

Turn Two: Mustang and Centauri Mage take Haunted to three health. Griffin takes mustang down to seven health, then Haunted spirit smacks the mustang down to five health. Haunted Spirit heals back up to five health but thorns take him back down to three health. Thanks to thorns his team is in trouble now!

Turn Three: Mustang and Centauri Mage take out the Haunted Spirit. The match is all but over now. Griffin chips at mustang but first thing next turn the Undead priest will die (and my team will get an extra health each back) and Griffin cant hit from first slot.

Turn Four and Five - Turn four goes as expected and the undead priest dies. Griffin takes up first slot and dies in turn five as it cant attack from first slot and Mustang and Centauri Mage easily take him out.

So that was quite an easy match-up in the end thanks to Thorns and the Mustang having a solid amount of health!

And that's a wrap, Challenge Done, Battle Won! Another easy win!
