Hello and welcome to How-to Play Splinterlands. For those of you who actually follow my blog, I will be putting the Sims 4 game on hold as I ride the Splinterlands wave here on Hive. I have to admit I am having a lot of fun playing the game and watching the many Splinterlands Streamers.

My guild which was Immortal Gods 8, has been transformed into IG TV because so many Splinterlands streamers have joined. I like the name IGStreamers. IGS does sound like a syndrome of some kind, but then again... maybe we are!

Many of my guildmates battle in the Splinterlands tournaments, a feature of the game I have been ignoring...

But yesterday I joined my very first tournament and despite not knowing what I was doing, I figured it out all by myself!!!

Let me explain why I have been ignoring the tournaments.

I didn't understand it.

Back in the day when tournaments first came out, the code for the battles wasn't written yet and we had to coordinate the tournaments. It all seemed too complicated, so I didn't participate.

When I came back to the game, the tournament feature had been added to the game, but with all the rules and power caps and cards needed, I was still confused.

I have been watching the IG TV Streamers (who often stream the tournaments) and I have been coordinating brawls in the guild, which has helped me understand the tournament process better.

I also watched in Splinterlands Chat and found that new players had the same questions I had. One of them being... Do you need to be currently ranked in silver league to enter a silver capped tournament?

Answer: No, you do not have to be currently ranked in the capped rank, but you do need to have those cards to win.

Most of the tournaments are coordinated by leagues to be fair in game play. Often there is a power cap or a SPS stake that helps to filter out tournament battles in order to fairly match them.

That is why I was thrilled to find this tournament that was just easy to figure out!

Very low league cap, entry fee, and all cards playable, plus we can play anytime, so I didn't have to stress out about that. Not to mention the prize was a nice bonus of cards and DEC.

It seemed like a no-brainer and that's right up my alley!!!

When you begin a tournament you will need to enter the Events tab on the top of your Splinterlands page. You will find a list of tournaments that have been hosted by different players.

Beside the name of the event there are the rules of the battle. This is where you can easily see the prizes and entry fees of each event.

Once you find an event that interests you, click on the view button to see the details. On the next screen you will see if you have enough league rank, cards, power, or SPS staked to enter the event.

If you do enter the event, the entry fee will be collected and you will be entered in the tournament. The Splinterlands game will notify you when the event begins and prompt you to enter the battles at the start of the event.

Once the battle begins you will be given access to the Battle Stage. The Arena tab will show you the players you will be battling. Up top in the right hand corner is the box you will use to enter the battles that says "Next Battle" in green.

By pressing the next battle tab, you will be taken to the start of each battle for each opponent. The rounds will be much like they are in ranked mode. You are given the rules of battle, taken to your summoners, and then your monsters. When you have prepared your team, you press battle.

In this tournament @sneaky-neutrino gave us 2:50 to select our teams, so we were not rushed.

You will keep pushing the next battle tab until you have entered all your battles. If you watch the Activity log in the Arena tab, you will see the other players enter their battles.

If you happen to be logged into Splinterlands when another player battles you, a notification will come up on your screen asking you if you would like to watch the battle. You can click the notification to be taken to the battle.

If you are not logged into Splinterlands, the results of the battles will be collected and shown in the same box as the next battle tab. You will see your wins, losses, drawls, points earned and your rank. It will also show you how many of your battles have been fought and are still pending.

To see your battles click on the Battles tab.

The battles tab will open a list of your battles, your opponents, and the results of the battle. You will also find a link to the battle by clicking on the Splinterlands teeth icon to the right of the battle log.

The battles you have won are entered with your name in green. If your name is in red this means you have lost the battle. When your name is in white, this indicates that the battle has not yet been completed.

The timer in your total box will show the remaining time in each round. Your opponents will need to enter their battles before the timer runs out.

At that time you will see the results of the round, and if you advance, the count down time for the next round of battles.

So far I am not doing too bad. I need to hit the Splinterlands Mall to buy some newer cards. I think that these cards have taken me as far as I am going to go!
