My crypto Journey in 2021

I am not really new on hive. I have been on here a year soon, but this is going to be my first real post on the hive blog. Until now I have only dabbled in posting my season report card though Splinterstats. Since we are now in December, I thought it would be fitting to look back on my first year in crypto.

I started my account in December of 2020 after hearing the most exciting word combination I have ever heard as a gamer, PLAYTOEARN. This sounded like a paradigm shift to me. No longer would gaming be a waste of time where the only thing you had to show for it would be some achievements and some digital assets you didn’t really own that would be locked in the game forever until the game company would discontinue support for the game. Really owning your game assets and be able to sell them if you want to play something else or be able to move items between games. It sounded to good to be true, had the future really arrived.

After looking around and deciding that the Ethereum blockchain was not for me with the gas fees (in hindsight investing in Axie infinity at this point would have been nice, but you can’t change the past). I settled on two things Splinterlands and the waxblockchain where there was another “game” called Alienworlds.

In Splinterlands I bought some cards, packs and 10 Lands from the land presale. I had fun with the game but found myself spending more and more time on the waxblockchain where another game Rplanet had caught my attention. I had sold my alienworlds NFTs since the “game” just wasn’t fun it was basically a skinner box where you click a buttom every few hours and get a reward. Calling it a game seemed bit of a stretch to me.

In quest for capital for Rplanet I did the thing I regret the most of all my actions in 2021. I sold a lot of my Splinterland cards early in 2021 for peanuts and a bucket full of seller’s remorse (This is a mistake I intend not to repeat). Luckily for me I had forgotten about the lands I had bought, and I never sold them.

For the next months i didn’t do much other then focus on Rplanet until I read about the new governance token coming to Splinterlands being airdropped as a reward for owning Splinterlands assets. I started selling some of my NFTs on Wax to move back into splinterlands cards. The problem was I was not the only one thinking Splinterlands cards was the place to be, and the prices just kept going up making it harder to get back into the game.

I got enough collection power to get into gold league but didn’t get a wide enough collection to avoid needing to rent cards to stay competitive. I felt that renting cards was getting expensive for the rewards I got from playing and ended up taking a break from the league ladder and rent out my own cards.

My plan for the last month has been to rent out my collection of cards netting me around 1700 DEC per day and using the income buying packs of the new set chaos legion so I can be at a better spot collection wise when the modern format arrives. While also diversifying into other aspects of the Hiveblockchain.

Just yesterday I took part in my first Hivebuzz power up day (PUD) and I am now a total of HP 41.821. this must be peanuts for people spending time on the hiveblockchain when the price of hive was only a few cents. But I got a nice badge and more hive power and that feels great!

My goals moving forward:

  • Be an active member of the hive community and continue to post content.
  • Keep powering up my hive account every month on PUD no matter the price of Hive.
  • Build a big enough collection of cards in splinterlands so I can both play and rent out cards.

All in all it has been a great year for me in crypto its been a whole new world opening up to me and I cant wait to see what the future brings for the hive blockchain. All I know is that I want to be a part of it!
