Hive Versus Facebook - What's Best For A Beginner Blogger

Hi there my dearest Cent Family and fellow Hivers, I @skyehi am here once again to share some thoughts on a very interesting and important topic which I believe will educate, inform and entertain my delicate readers both on Hive and those not yet on this wonderful platform.

Well today's blog post is on a topic of comparison. I'll be comparing two very powerful social media giants, Facebook and Hive.

For those that are still unaware or new to Hive, well Hive is basically this very site on which you're reading my blog. It's a social media platform that has been built on a Blockchain technology called Hive Blockchain with the purpose of rewarding content creators and curators. The rewards system is made possible by the Blockchain in which the social platform is built on.

Well I really don't think I need to explain what Facebook is because of its level of popularity. It's basically the biggest social media platform in the world. It has got a user base of billions of people. It truly is very huge. The Hive Blockchain in comparison has a user base of over 1 million people, I stand to be corrected on the fact though.

Although Facebook is a giant social media platform and that could be reasons why newbie or beginner bloggers may discover or prefer it over Hive, there are some points I think people need to consider about the value of these platforms to Bloggers.

I have enumerated a few points to discuss around. So let's get into it shall we.

Income or Rewards

Now as a blogger, I have experienced both platforms. I have been on Facebook for years until to be honest I stopped using Facebook when I finally discovered Hive. The reason is that as a blogger trying to rise in both experience and income, Facebook never gave me the value I was looking for.

The thing is that as bloggers, we need these rewards and incomes from our work to support us to keep writing quality blogs. Facebook really hasn't done a great job with that I think. Although you get views from thousands of people, monetization is really not good at all. To make matters worse, the Monetization of your content is a privilege for only a few countries in the world. Sadly my country is not amongst the list of eligible countries. This excludes me from earning from my posts on Facebook.

However on Hive, everyone from anywhere is eligible to earn really decent incomes from their quality posts. This makes Hive the better platform when it comes to income for a newbie blogger.

Payment through cryptocurrency

One thing I love about Hive is that they reward their content creators through cryptocurrency. This is basically what has allowed the chance for everyone in any part of the world to earn from their quality content. The value of their Hive token is quite stable too and has risen before to increase the value of my post payments. Facebook on the other hand pays through traditional currency like USD or Euro. Although that's no bad thing, that has excluded a lot of content creators from many different countries that are not eligible for their monetization. This monetization difference was enough for me to quit Facebook and I haven't logged in for about a year now.

No Minimum Requirement for Monetization eligibility

One thing that makes Hive a fair and valuable platform to newbie bloggers is that you don't need to attain any minimum number of followers, upvotes or post views to be eligible for content monetization. There's simply no requirement except having a Hive Account.😁 As a newbie blogger, my very first post earned about 3 whole dollars and that was me basically introducing myself to the platform.

However on Facebook, you would first need to be part of one of the eligible countries, reach a minimum of 10,000 followers and also gain 100, 000 views of your videos to be able to start making money. I think that's not fair because it would probably take sometime before newbies actually get to achieve all that to be able to see monetary value from their posts.

Decentralization

One of the major differences between Hive and Facebook is that Hive is a Decentralized platform whiles Facebook is not Decentralized. What does that mean?

Hive is Decentralized which means that the control and influence of the platform is in the hands of the people and not a single authority or organization or a person. This means the people of the platform determine which post succeeds and which post doesn't. Of course based on the quality of your content people will upvote you. This leaves me as a blogger to focus entirely on the quality of my post and not how to meet SEO demands. I don't have to worry about searching for which topics go more viral and how to title my blogs just to get more views.

Facebook on the other hand is centralized which means it's being controlled and regulated by the Facebook company and the leader, CEO Mark Zuckerberg. With their Facebook algorithms they can influence which content goes viral and which doesn't regardless of the quality. They use bots to decide whether a content should trend or not based on the interests of majority of their users at that time. So if at that time, a particular topic is trending, then posting about it can stand a higher chance of trending even if it's basically trash. I was really sad with that outcome during the time I was still on Facebook. I would create a valuable content and get almost nothing and someone who only created SEO favored content gets millions of views. Now that's the bad side of centralization. The quality of posts is not taken into account that much.

Lack of Censorship

Now this is also a really important concept. Hive lacks censorship which means that posts will not be influenced by the government or organizations. On Facebook which is basically censored, the government can decide to instruct the Facebook company to take down certain posts and content that goes against their interest even though it was the pure Truth.

The lack of censorship allows the truth to come out. It gives real voice to the people and allows everyone to be honest although maintaining respect for the community and everyone else. I believe in the truth and I think we need to maintain censorship on Hive. It helps bloggers a lot in writing what matters.

Curation rewards Value

One very valuable feature on Hive is their curation rewards system. Can you imagine getting paid for liking a picture or blog post on Facebook. That's basically what curation is and it happens on Hive. When you upvote on a content on Hive, based on your Hive Power stored, an amount of money goes to the post which after seven days is split in half between you and the one you voted. So if your upvote generates 4 dollars, it could be split after the seven days and you would essential earn about 2 dollars just for pressing the upvote button.

Try to Beat That Facebook 🥱😅

Developed by the people

Now we all know that Facebook is being developed and updated by Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook team. If they say that Facebook is taking this direction, there's nothing we can say. They recently released a threads application and it's quite the topic for another day. But the point I'm trying to make is that Hive is different. Hive is developed by the users themselves. Of course with programming experience. Ever heard of DAPPs, these are websites built by users of Hive and is linked to Hive.

There are so many of them including LeoFinance, Ecency, Pinmapple and many more. Infact, there are games like Splinterlands and Rising Star, all games developed by the users connected to the Hive Blockchain. I even have a vision of making some DAPPS of my own after gaining at least a year's experience on Hive Blockchain.

No Ads

One other thing I'm happy to include is the difference between Hive and Facebook is that Hive has absolutely no ads running on the platform while Facebook has ads. Infact, Facebook ads are one of their biggest ways of earning revenue besides selling their user information which is a topic for another day too😅. As a blogger on Hive, you are confident that your readers will not be distracted with annoying ads.

My Conclusion

Above are some of the few things that I believe makes Hive a very valuable platform for Bloggers whether newbies or experienced ones. There's so much value I get being a blogger on Hive compared to Facebook. Decentralization, No censorship, every country is elegible to earn, no minimum number of followers, DAPPS and no ads.🥳

Thanks for reading

I hope you enjoyed this brief blog post guys. Both platforms are great but in my opinion, Hive helps newbies more than Facebook does. I would love to hear your opinions on this blog topic guys. Have a lovely and wonderful day. Hope to see you on my next blog post. Byee guys. ❤️
