PeakD Versus Hive Blog - Battle of the Frontends
Greetings to the ever growing community, Cent on Hive. Another day is here and your young writer @skyehi is back once again with an awesome blog topic that I hope will spark productive discussions and innovations.
Today's blog post is a topic of comparison. Hive is basically a Blockchain technology at its backend but at the Frontend is a social media website. There are two very powerful Hive Frontends that I believe everyone appreciates to be the very best of Hive's frontends.
Those two are Hive Blog and PeakD. The interesting thing is that newcomers may come unto the Hive community using one of these frontends and the experience they get with Hive Community through these frontends will be what determines how they perceive Hive to be.
The better the experience they get through these frontends, the better Hive Blockchain will seem to be to them. This is what makes the frontend so important. It is basically the face of the Hive Blockchain.
Well let's get straight into the discussion of the few differences between the two front ends. I would like to note that this is entirely my honest opinion after using the two platforms. You are absolutely free to disagree with me on any point and I would be glad to hear your opinions in the comments section below.
Theme And Design
When it comes to theme and design of the website, I think I would prefer Hive Blog's simplicity and brightness over PeakD's dark theme. There are people who prefer dark theme though so they would love PeakD.
Although, Hive Blog could also have a dark theme mode which is very nice. I believe there's light mode on PeakD but it's not just the light theme for me, it's basically how Hive Blog has its design with the red color mix, it's just very cool for me.
The icons and images seem more modern than PeakD's icons although PeakD has a cool arrangement of the icons and makes is a bit easy to see more of its features. I guess in the end it's a matter of preference when it comes to design.
Functionality
Well when it comes to usability and posting content, I think I have to hand it to PeakD this time. First of all, it's pretty easy to know the description and the rules of any community you join when you're using PeakD. It makes it easy for me to know more about any community I join and follow their rules in order to post.
One thing I like about PeakD when it comes to posting is that, in any community, before you start creating your post, they give you a pop-up of the default beneficiaries with the community's beneficiary already set if the community has one. Usually it's part of some Communities rule that you need to make certain accounts beneficiaries. I didn't even know this until I started using PeakD for posting.
Features
Well when it comes to features, once again I would hand it to PeakD. One thing I love about PeakD is that when you press the profile picture circle, a side bar appears and at the top of the bar is a percentage of your resource credits, a percentage of your voting power and a percentage of your down voting power. Hive blog only has the resource credit circle which of course is convenient but not enough details of the state of my voting power.
Although there's quite a lot you can do with Hive blog and I think it's enough for newbies, I believe PeakD is the better frontend when it comes to features. I'm pretty sure that was the main aim of developing it anyways right guys?
Content Readability
When it comes to Content Readability, this time I'm in favor of Hive Blog. I love the features of PeakD but I love the design of Hive Blog and how it displays content.
This has caused me to be using both platforms at the same time. I use PeakD for creating and curating content in Hive and I use Hive blog for checking out how well my posts are doing, which other interesting communities exists and for reading other people's blogs posts with my free time.
I guess in the end, it's really a matter of preference and what you like to do most on the platform.
A creator and A Reader's Choice
Now as a content creator, I believe PeakD has more features to make you effective. It allows for up to ten hashtags to use while Hive blog allows for up to seven hashtags. You get to see if a community has a default beneficiary or not before making any post. You get to read the community rules and description right from their main page before posting into it. So I believe as a creator I choose PeakD as the better frontend.
As merely a reader on Hive, I would prefer the simple and elegant modern design of the Hive Blog. The words are arranged beautifully, the titles and subtitles are decent in size. The quotes are nicer than the quotes on PeakD. It's basically just easier and cooler to read on Hive blog. So as a reader I choose Hive Blog.
Curator's Choice
Well like I said earlier on, PeakD has more features like showing the exact percentage of my Hive power which is very convenient for controlling your curation activities. Sometimes I would prefer to give more curation to my favorite creators so I discipline myself not to over use the power before they make their posts. Although I'm usually voting based on quality of the post I see.
When you press the upvote button in PeakD, you get a very nice bar showing the percentage of votes you want to give and how much money it will generate for that post. Although something similar is done in Hive blog, it only shows up when you have a particular amount of Hive Power, Hp.
I think as a curator, PeakD has more features to help let you make effective curation than Hive blog
What do you think of the two
Well, all of these points are basically my honest opinions and may not be the way others see the two frontends. I would love to hear in the comments section what you think of the two frontends and I would also love to hear what your favorite frontend is.
Thanks once again for taking the time to read my blog post. It's always a pleasure to share content like this. I hope you enjoyed it and learned a few things. I also appreciate the support of everyone on my previous posts. Thanks for the love guys. I hope to see you in my next blog post. Have lovely day friends. Bye❤️
