Why Do We Forget Some Dreams?

Greetings to my Cent family. It's a wonderful day and your young writer @skyehi is back with an awesome blog which I hope to make both entertaining and informative.

In today's blog post we're going to talk about dreams and the reasons why we forget some dreams right after we wake up.

To be honest it can be a real disappointment when you try to remember an awesome dream that you're super certain you had when you slept. Unfortunately your brain finds it really hard to recall. The question is why do we remember some dreams and forget some dreams.

Well most dreams are actually like that. They are hard to recall. The reason this keeps happening is because right after you wake up from your sleep, your brain has to do an immediate switch from the dream world to the real world.

That immediate switch can cause a significant portion of the dreams you have to be forgotten. As you wake up, your brain starts to focus on things like what time or date it is, where you are, what happened yesterday and what you need to do in your day. As all this information rushes through your mind, your brain starts to lose memory of what happened in your dreams.

Now I have already shared in a science community about the stages we go through when we sleep. There are primarily two stages. We have REM sleep and non-REM sleep. REM there stands for Rapid Eye Movement.

It is mostly during REM sleep where vivid and sometimes Lucid dreams occur. There's a part of the Brain that handles emotions and feelings and apparently these same parts of the brain are responsible for the feeling we have when we dream.

In non-REM sleep we basically fall into a deep sleep with no dream. I'm pretty sure you can recall times when you slept and woke up being very certain that you had no dream.

Now as our mind switches between the REM sleep and the non-REM sleep, it can lead to the loss of some portions of the dreams we have. So we wake up forgetting a significant part of the dream we dreamed.

Yeah I know it can be a very disappointing thing when you have a super interesting dream and you can't seem to remember the whole show. Sometimes you really want to narrate the dream to a friend but you're stuck at a certain point. It's basically blank.

There was one time I dreamed a dream finding the solution to a math problem which I had been trying very hard to solve. I knew that I had finally solved the math problem but when I woke up, I forgot how I was able to solve it because the part where I was combining the formulas was forgotten.

I woke up and rushed for a paper to try to recall it and I was blank. I felt really frustrated because I knew I had finally solved the problem but just couldn't remember how I did it.

I guess hopefully as Elon Musk successfully goes through with human trials for the neural link we would finally be able to find a solution to being capable of recalling the dreams we forget. I'm pretty sure that it's possible even though not exactly feasible.

I can finally recall the awesome dreams I had which unfortunately I had forgotten. Well one thing I've realized about dreams is that some people can recall their dreams more often than others. I'll do a little more research on why that is the situation.

Now sometimes it's not exactly a mistake that we forget some dreams. Our brain literally does.this intentionally. It deletes things that may not be too important to us to create more room for things that are dear to us. We will not remember everything we experience in life.

Dreams can sometimes look a bit scattered and meaningless or basically a puzzle we can't seem to figure out. That's why our brain takes some of the dreams into trash.

As I bring my brief blog post to an end, if you want to be able to remember as much of your dream as possible, you can try taking notes of what you can remember and hopefully as you take notes your brain will go back memory lane and grab something for you.

Thank you guys so much for taking the time to read my blog post today. I hope you enjoyed it even though it was pretty brief. As always you can share your comments below and I'll gladly respond to it guys. Have an awesome day. Catch you next time. Bye ❤️
