WOO - Embracing Change: WWE's New Era of Cross-Promotion
Greetings to everyone and welcome back to Wrestling Organization Online, WOO.
I was going through some wrestling news, and there is something that I found in WWE that is pretty amazing.
Back in the day when Vince McMahon was still running things, they rarely referred to any other wrestling companies. It is almost as if they are living in an island of their own.
However, things seem to be changing now. Triple H who handles creative stuff has taken a different route.
He now mentions other wrestling promotions more frequently on WWE TV besides working together with them too. Therefore, it’s like he’s wide-opening all new world of wrestling.
One thing that caught my eye was this announcement about Shayna Baszler. She will be competing at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X during WrestleMania 40 week?
Now Bloodsport is this cool event where matches happen in rings without ropes and you win by making your opponent submit or knocking them out. It’s quite intense and Shayna seems perfect for it.
But hold on – it's not a WWE event. It’s another company entirely and during WrestleMania week they are using one of WWE stars.
That is like, whoa. I mean, I understand Shayna is wonderful but it’s unexpected to see WWE cut one of their own to go play in someone else’s sandbox.
According to Dave Meltzer, who seems to know a lot about wrestling, Triple H was the one who made the decision. He looks at things from a different perspective from Vince McMahon.
He is into cross-promotion while Vince would rather keep things internal.
And you won’t believe this; WWE has been doing this more lately with other promotions as well. For instance, they sent this guy Charlie Dempsey for wrestling matches in Japan where he even competed for a major title belt there.
Jordynne Grace also appeared in the women’s Royal Rumble match? This has got to do something with WWE playing nice with other companies now.
However, that is not what Triple H wants it to be called, even with all these. I think he doesn't like it. He hates being called or categorized into anything. That's respectable.
Nevertheless this made me think: maybe wrestling is finally evolving for the better? Maybe such collaborations will make things more interesting.
Probably we are witnessing just the beginning of something big and amazing in our lives?
